Community Sector Ball: Call for Sponsors!


NRSDC will once again be ‘putting on the glitz’ at this year’s 5th annual Northern Region Community Sector Ball and Awards night being held on Friday, November 27, at Lismore City Hall − and we're looking for sponsors to become involved in this signature event!
With ‘Glitter and Gold’ set as the evening’s theme, the event is again set to be a glamorous affair with great entertainment, MCs, music, dancing, performance and delicious cuisine!
The annual Ball and Awards Night has become a major event on the Northern Rivers calendar, supporting a sector which is responsible for employing 17 percent of the region’s workforce and which plays a vital role in ensuring the wellbeing of our community and shaping its future.
NRSDC is now seeking sponsors for this year's event, with a number of opportunities for organisations and businesses to become involved. You can choose to be a Gold Sponsor, Silver Sponsor, an Award Sponsor or an Associate Sponsor.

Being Child Aware: Child Protection Event at Lismore Square

A Child Protection Week Event is being held this week at the Lismore Shopping Square, on Thursday September 10.
Many Lismore Services have come together to hold this fun event for families. The event at the Square will be held outside Big W and will run all day from 9.00am until 6.00pm.

Lismore Transport Expo 2015

Come along to the Lismore Transport Expo 2015 for everything you need to know about getting around in Lismore and beyond!


Find out about the new regional transport info line, bus timetables, fare concessions, community transport, car pooling and more.
Chat with transport providers and check out the entries in the primary schools art competition on the theme ‘How would you get to school if you didn’t have a car?’
The Expo is on Thursday 10th September at Lismore Shopping Square from 9am to 4pm.
 

StandBy Response Bereavement Workshops

 “Pathways to Care” and “Crossing the River” Bereavement Workshops provide local community support for those bereaved through suicide.
Tweed Heads and surrounding villages are respectfully invited to attend this free training on Tuesday 13 October, 9.15am – 3.30pm at South Tweed Community Hall - HACC Centre Corner, Minjungbal Drive & Heffron Street, Tweed Heads South.

Support Collaborative Service Delivery: NCOSS

NCOSS CEO Tracy Howe gave evidence at the Legislative Council Social Affairs Committee Inquiry into Service Co-ordination in communities with high social needs on 28 August 2015.
Drawing on insights gained through extensive regional consultation with its members around the NCOSS pre-budget submission, she emphasised that the sector works together in a co-ordinated way to respond to need in the communities they work in. However, the capacity of services to do this effectively is made difficult by funding constraints, insecure funding and the competitive tendering model.

Relocation Advice - FaCS Services

The refurbishments at Lismore Community Services Centre are near completion and the office will re-open for business on Monday 14 September. Community Services, Housing NSW and Business Services will be co-located at the new FaCS site at 4 Zadoc Street.
 

FACS Careleavers’ Line

The Department of Family and Community Services has a new service – the FACS Careleavers’ Line, which aims to support young people who are leaving or who have left out of home care.

Nominations open for 2016 Australia Day Awards

Lismore City Council is now calling for nominations for the 2016 Australia Day Awards. Mayor Jenny Dowell said the awards were a great way to recognise people who contributed to their community, volunteered or excelled in their field of endeavour.

Release of Exposure Draft of a Request for Proposal for
Transition to Work 2016-2020

The Australian Government is committed to helping young job seekers at increased risk of long-term unemployment to improve their chances of finding and keeping a job.  As announced in the 2015-2016 Commonwealth Budget, the Government is establishing a new service to assist young people aged 15-21 years who are not in employment or education.
An Exposure Draft of a Request for Proposal for Transition to Work 2016-2020 was released on 8 September 2015 and is scheduled to close at 5.00 pm (Canberra Time) on 6 October 2015.

Anti-Discrimination Board Memorandum of Understanding
with NSW Fair Trading

An Aboriginal woman phones a real estate agent, who says that there are properties available in her price range. When she goes to the office in person, she is told that there is nothing available. Her Caucasian friend goes to the office the same day and is offered several properties. 
Having heard many such cases, the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW has signed a memorandum of understanding with the NSW Office of Fair Trading which will enable the two bodies to more actively address discrimination against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the real estate industry.

Disability in the 21st Century Conference and Trade Show

NDS is pleased to support the NDIS New World: Disability in the 21st Century Conference and Trade Show, to be hosted by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) from 27-29 October 2015.
This conference, to be held at the Brisbane Conference and Exhibition Centre, will be a dynamic exchange between people with disability, entrepreneurs, policy makers and service providers, exploring the potential of technology to enhance the lives of people with a disability, their carers, families and service providers.

Arts Northern Rivers is back on the road with Northern Rivers Creative, and the beautiful Tweed Valley is their next stop.
This time they will be popping up as part of Tweed Fusion a weekend of all things arts and culture held in the Tweed Valley. Northern Rivers Creative will be taking over an empty space and filling it full of wares made by creatives from the Tweed region.

Record $100,000 in Local Grant Funding Available!



Recipients of the NRCF’s 2014 Grants Round celebrate.

2015 will see the Northern Rivers Community Foundation (“the NRCF”) distribute a record $100,000 in funding to local charities and not-for-profit organisations with its latest grants round. The Grant Applications will open on Monday, 7th September 2015 and close on Tuesday, 6th October 2015.
In recognition and celebration of 2015 being the NRCF’s 11th anniversary of local giving, eligible organisations can apply for a special $30,000 grant, in addition to the usual grant-giving amounts.

NAB Impact Investment Readiness Fund

The NAB Impact Investment Readiness Fund is a new $1 million fund established to provide mission-driven organisations with targeted advice and support to help them secure investment for scaling up their social or environmental impact.
The Fund offers grants of up to $100,000 for enterprises to purchase specialised capacity building support from providers such as advisory, financial, intermediary or legal services.

Free DV Professional Development Opportunity for
Community Sector and Health Sector Workers

Lifeline is running a free accredited course in Domestic Violence Response Training (DV-alert) for health, allied health and community frontline workers who come in contact with people experiencing or at risk of domestic violence as part of their work. TAFE DV Skills Development Strategy Survey

The Skills Development Strategy (SDS) is funded by FACS and administered by Women NSW (now with NSW Health) in partnership with TAFE South Western Sydney Institute.  The strategy is part of the NSW It Stops Here Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) reforms.
TAFE will be conducting training under the strategy in 16 sites across the State commencing in September 2015 and running through to March 2016 and has requested urgent distribution of the invitation to relevant DFV networks  - DVLC administrators and DV-funded services.

The Far North Coast Family Referral Service (FNCFRS) is a joint project of Interrelate and the Northern Rivers Social Development Council. The project will provide a service access point consisting of a telephone hotline, face to face referral and outreach services to connect families in need with appropriate local services. The service will directly assist families in need and the services that support them. The FNCFRS has been established to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people as part of the NSW Government’s Keep Them Safe initiative.   Closing date for applications: COB (5pm) Monday 14th September 2015.
