Summer Mentors Chosen for ATC Institute 2022

After a rigorous selection process, Arkansas Teacher Corps has chosen six Summer Mentors for the 2022 Institute, tentatively scheduled for June 1-July 15. Returning mentor Ava Hollins-Rogers (ATC ’20) will join newcomers Brianna Thompson-Young (ATC’20), Cade Vallee (ATC ’19), Carah Colbert-Matchett (ATC ’20), Erica Weathers (ATC ’19) and Dr. Ivy Macaranes in guiding new fellows through the seven-week virtual training.

ATC would like to invite our school partners to nominate any unlicensed school staff for a 2022 ATC Fellowship by May 1, 2022. School leaders can nominate uncertified teachers through the recommendation form below or by directly contacting John Hall, ATC partnerships director. Virtual Coaching Model Sees Greater Fellow Growth

ATC made a quick pivot to virtual coaching when COVID hit Arkansas schools in 2020. Since then, our team's focus on continual learning and improvement have led us to formalize a technology plan, fully implement a comprehensive virtual coaching platform, and see our teacher-fellows make unprecedented gains: increased teacher satisfaction, retention, and growth.

ATC Receives $131,250 Grant to Support Fellows

ATC was awarded a grant totaling $131,250 by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) in March 2022. Grant funds will provide additional supports for fellows in the areas of teacher licensure, wraparound support, and social-emotional learning. Fellows can earn licensure bonuses, request additional support during institute, or apply for participation in Breathe For Change.

Dollarway Celebrates 2/22/22 With Mindfulness

ATC and Pine Bluff School District partnered together to bring a new kind of celebration to the Dollarway community on February 2, 2022. In a twist of the years-old activity DEAR, students at DHS celebrated the once in a lifetime event with DrEAM (Drop Everything And Meditate). ATC fellow TyKesha Cross organized the event and enlisted ATC partnerships director John Hall to lead a session.

Arkansas THRIVE Leadership Academy

The Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications from school districts for Cohort 1 of the AR THRIVE Leadership Academy. The AR THRIVE Leadership Academy is an intensive, hands on, multi-day training for school leaders in positive behavior and mental health supports.  The goal is to equip building leaders to support behavior and mental health in their schools both reactively and proactively.   Participants will be paid a $2500 stipend and will be eligible for an endorsement to be added to their current teaching license upon successful completion of the academy. Space is limited, so you must submit your application by 4:30 PM on Friday April 22, 2022.

Teach Plus Arkansas Policy Fellowship

Teach Plus Arkansas invites teachers to apply for the Arkansas Teaching Policy Fellowship. This is a highly selective paid leadership opportunity for outstanding Arkansas teachers looking to deepen their knowledge of education policy and strengthen their voice in decisions that affect students and the teaching profession.
Through the Fellowship, we develop, support, and empower some of Arkansas’s best teachers to become advocates for their students by developing specific policy recommendations in one of four areas: teacher preparation, development and leadership; early childhood education; teacher recruitment and retention; and social-emotional learning/mental health. The fellowship starts in August and meets monthly. Fellows receive a $1500 stipend.

UA Equity Fellowship (5th Cohort)

The Arkansas Academy for Educational Equity is looking for experienced teachers (particularly graduating ATC fellows and alumni) to take part in the 5th cohort of the Equity Fellowship. To be eligible, you must have at least three (3) years of classroom teaching experience, an Arkansas teaching License, and admission to the University of Arkansas Graduate School, which requires a conferred baccalaureate degree and a 3.0 cumulative GPA on the last 60.0 credit hours of attempted coursework from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Equity fellows must also commit to working in a qualifying partner school district. The Equity Fellowship provides the full-cost of tuition and fees for the Master’s degree in Educational Equity, but participants will be required to pay some expenses for books and other supplies. Participants in Cohort 5 will attend the Equity Institute in Little Rock on June 9-11, 2022 and complete graduate courses during six semester between Summer 2022 and expected graduation in May 2024. All sessions are workshop formatted to allow for collaboration; sessions are not webinars. All sessions will take place via Zoom and will not be recorded to protect the space and allow participants to engage freely. Teach For America alum and non-alum are welcome! See below for session information. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
