Partnership with Breathe For Change and ADE to Fully Fund Yoga/SEL Certification for 5 Fellows

ATC is partnering with Breathe For Change to sponsor 5 ATC fellows as "Breathe4Change-Agents" who are certified to teach inclusive yoga classes and lead social-emotional learning within ATC and our partner schools/districts.

The Breathe For Change 200-hour Wellness, SEL and Yoga Teacher Training consists of self-paced content, including videos, reflections, integration activities, lesson plans, and readings, as well as interactive sessions on Zoom that build community and help bring the learnings from your on-demand content to life!
Upon graduation, participants will earn a world-recognized 200-hour yoga teacher certification (CYT-200) and the B4C-exclusive Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL*F) certification.

Participants have the option between two cohorts (either Mon/Tues or Wed/Thurs) running June 27-Aug 9. All sessions are at 11am-5pm CT.
  • Mon/Tues: June 27-28, July 11-12, 18-19, 25-26, Aug 1-2, 8-9
  • Wed/Thurs: June 29-30, July 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28, Aug 3-4
There are only 5 spots, so sign-up now! Priority will be given to current fellows, fellows who have previously completed John's mindfulness course, and fellows with concrete plans for sharing their learning with others. Funding has been provided by the Arkansas Department of Education.
In addition to the yoga intensive, all ATC fellows will receive B4C training in fulfilling goals related to social-emotional learning, wellness and mindfulness, equity and inclusion, and trauma-informed pedagogy. Fellows will also benefit from access to the B4C Community Network for additional support.

In 2015, Founder and CEO Dr. Ilana Nankin’s dissertation research revealed the critical connection between teacher well-being and effective teaching. She became inspired to take action, and our team of educators, researchers, and leaders have been using wellness and social-emotional learning as vehicles for social change in schools and communities across the nation in ever since.

Benefits for Educators
Mindfulness and yoga practices for teachers lead to increases in self-compassion and resilience to stress, enhanced emotional well-being, and reduced burnout.  Professionals receiving mindfulness interventions experience significantly less emotional exhaustion and more job satisfaction. Decreases in teacher stress and burnout lead to increases in student social-emotional and academic learning.

Benefits for Students
In 2011, a meta analysis of 213 studies of SEL programs involving more than 270,000 students showed an 11 percentile-point gain in academic achievement. Daily meditation practice led to increased attendance, higher GPAs, and decreased suspensions by 79% in an inner-city San Francisco school. Anxiety-reducing practices cut the failure rate in half for advanced biology courses in a Midwest high school. The results of 17 studies conducted in the Bay Area, varying in duration from three months to one year, showed benefits including reduced stress, increased emotional intelligence, decreased suspension rates, improved attendance, and enhanced academic performance.
