Dear Coonley Families,
Our incredible teachers and staff returned to school this past week and have been hard at work preparing to welcome students back for the 2021-2022 school year. As a staff, we reflected on our year-long theme, One Day at Time, We Can!, learned about the impact trauma has on brain development, reviewed health & safety protocols, welcomed new staff members, and prepared to lay the foundation for positive and safe classroom communities.
On Monday morning, please join fellow Coonley parents/guardians for Parent First Day Welcome Back Coffee And from 8:30 - 9:30 am on the basketball courts. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow Coonley parents. Thank you Friends of Coonley for sponsoring this event.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Principal, Coonley ES

Please watch this video (or view this presentation) for important information about Coonley’s health & safety protocols. Below are a few highlights.
As of August 30, 2021, CPS students and staff no longer need to submit an online health screener each day before entering a CPS school or facility. Instead, all families and employees will be asked to run through this list of questions before leaving home each day. If you answer 'Yes' to any of the self-screening questions, you must not enter a CPS school or facility.
Parents and guardians will be required to submit a quarterly attestation form in which they agree to perform daily health screening of their student(s) before sending them to school. The attestation will ask parents and guardians to:
Agree to screen their child for possible symptoms or COVID-19 exposure at home each day prior to school
Confirm that they will not send their child to school if they answer “yes” to any of the CPS health screening questions
Inform their child’s school if their child will be absent from in-person class because they are sick or have been exposed to a confirmed COVID case.
The attestation form will be sent home this week with your students. It is on bright orange paper. Please complete it and return it to the school by September 3, 2021.
Reporting a Positive Case:
While it is always good to notify Coonley Administration/Staff in regards to COVID exposures, you must follow the below steps:

Room reps help teachers with regular communication regarding their classroom, timely school happenings, Friends of Coonley, and the Local School Council. Their efforts help connect families within each classroom and strengthen the school community as a whole.
What would I do as a Room Rep
Create a parent directory for the class and send communication updates and reminders.
Plan social/special events/classroom parties for the class and/or families (pending COVID 19 protocols)
Organize teacher appreciation week
Support fundraising efforts

Welcome back to an exciting and promising school year! As part of the district’s efforts to ensure the safety of our students, we are partnering with Thermo Fisher Scientific and Color Health to provide all students with COVID-19 testing beginning September 1, 2021 for the school year through the ReadyCheckGo™ testing program.
If you are interested in having your child participate in testing, please follow this link and complete the registration process. A parent or guardian must register any minor under 18 years old, and you’ll give a one-time consent and HIPAA authorization to share your child’s results with the school and district.
Testing is optional for students, except for unvaccinated and partially vaccinated student athletes. Testing will take place during regular school hours and results will be available in 24 to 48 hours. Color Health will follow up with you directly if the pool in which your child participated has a positive result.
For more information on testing with Thermo Fisher and Color, including self-swab testing and receiving results, head to their Support FAQs or call 888-603-1028. You may also email the CPS COVID-19 Testing Team at email@example.com.
Thank you for your participation to keep our school community safe and healthy.
