New Zealand Labour Party Rainbow Policy:

The New Zealand  Labour Party:  -  real action so that every young person has a safe place to learn and thrive and a warm dry home to live in

  • ensure our health system is inclusive and works for everyone

  • lead an active Government which empowers people and ensures formal equality under the law, especially for trans and intersex New Zealanders.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and human rights. This means all people should have the same basic rights, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.

Future Labour Governments will continue to work towards equality by eliminating remaining areas of discrimination in our law, and ensuring that Rainbow* New Zealanders can live in safety and dignity

Joey Joleen Mataele describes herself as "a woman trapped in a man's body."

Transgendered Tongan 'leitis' finding their way in the conservative country

While transgenders in Australia typically exist on the periphery of society, in the Kingdom of Tonga, they sit close to the king – or wait on his table, at least, writes Peter Munro.

We spot Mataele sitting at a table reserved for dignitaries, dressed in a snug fuchsia twinset with two strings of white pearls and her dark hair in a bun. She greets me with a light kiss. The fact that she was born a man hasn't dented her standing in high society..

Australia Christians for Marriage  Equality.

Many LGBTI Australians are on edge today waiting for the outcome of the High Court challenge. I am particularly conscious of Christian LGBTI people who are hearing hurtful and untrue messages that their relationships are not worthy of legal protection, social recognition or God's blessing. Remember you are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Ps 139) and you are not alone.

High Court gives the green light to Turnbull Government’s same sex marriage

With only six days before ballots are due to be mailed to millions of voters, the High Court has struck down an attempt to brand the same-sex marriage postal vote unconstitutional.
