Cocoa Butter Club; Bringing Talented Queer People Of Colour to the Forefront.

pastedGraphic_2.png

And on the 7th day the Queer Spirit created the Cocoa Butter Club, to answer our prayers crying out for greater visibility for queer people of colour. Acknowledging the fact that there is still a serious lack of diverse representation in the Australian arts & entertainment sector, the CBC merges two significantly marginalised groups to present a night that is, to simply put it, not about celebrating straight, white folk. Produced by Krishna Istha and Dani Weber, the ongoing popularity of the CBC is evidence in itself that the QPOC community (and its allies) is thirsty for events where they can cheer on and support incredible talent in an accessible-to-all safe space.

Plebiscite bill fails Senate with $122 million postal vote likely to take its place

pastedGraphic_3.png

THE bill for a plebiscite on marriage equality has failed in the Senate a second time, with a $122 million postal vote now likely to commence in its place on September 12.

The plebiscite was blocked a second time today after Labor Senator Penny Wong argued against the government’s plan to carry out a poll rather than represent the people, Out in Perth has reported.

Wong called the Coalition “utterly divided” on marriage equality and called for a decision to be made in the party room.

Independent member for Sydney Alex Greenwich has told Sky News he will be seeking an urgent injunction to put a stop to the government's postal plebiscite on same sex marriage.

The Senate blocked a government move to restore the original same-sex marriage plebiscite to its agenda on Wednesday, giving rise to the postal vote instead.

Labor, the Greens and the Nick Xenophon Team had the numbers to tie a vote at 31-all, meaning the move was defeated.

Mr Greenwich has confirmed Australian Marriage Equality will go to the High Court to try and get the postal plebiscite scrapped
