Project Updates

***The Sacramento Valley Professional Chapter discussed potential new projects at our last chapter meeting. Please click here to review available projects for further discussion if you are interested in pursuing a particular project and/or becoming a project manager. New members are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. We hope to see you there!

Belize - Sarteneja

The Belize team had four members travel to Sarteneja for an Outreach Implementation from April 19 - 27. The team's main accomplishments of the trip were providing flood-proofing education to the Villagers and meeting with the Belize Ministry of Works regarding the technical solution. The Ministry remains adamant not to allow digging in the streets and has asked for an updated design involving concrete ditches. The team is working with EWB-National Branch to determine the future of our partnership and the allowed scope of practice for working directly with the Belize government. Sarteneja, Belize is a community of about 3,000 people who suffer major loss from flooding each year. For more information, please contact Mandy Ott at

Denizen/Wyck Housing Project - Santa Rosa

The Sacramento EWB chapter has partnered with the Denizen/Wyck Housing Group to support the structural design of tiny homes for those displaced by last year's fires in Santa Rosa. Currently, the team is having their preliminary technical plan being reviewed by their Responsible Engineer in Charge and will move forward with design upon its approval. If you have a structural background and are interested in being involved with the project, please email Patrick Donovan at

Kenya - East Kanyamamba

Thank you to all of those who supported the KEK school supply drive! We received many great items to send to a primary school in the KEK community. The project team will be meeting with their community contact this month in Lancaster, CA to deliver the school supplies for transit to Kenya in July. The project team is still preparing follow up documentation for their recent trip to Kenya in February and pursuing international grant programs to raise funding for additional spring source development.
The KEK Clean Water Program is located near Rongo, Kenya in the East Kanyamamba community (a community of 1600 people). For more information, please contact Laura Byrd at

Panama - Tranquilla Norte

The project has been waiting for the elections to be over to resume project planning with new officials. The team was informed of the results for the city council but not for La Junta (the board that maintains the water system) to know how many were reelected.   The team will be drafting an updated community agreement to be signed by the elected La Junta members and will be scheduling a call with them to discuss next steps for the project.

Please contact Michelle Kolb at for more information.
