Impact Zone SEO Top 5 Newsletter, 18 July 2018

1. A beginner's guide to privacy policies

Takeaway: if you have not updated your website to meet GDPR requirements, then better late than never. This guide provides you with an overview of what privacy policies are, plus links to sites that will generate a privacy policy for you automatically, either free or for a small fee. It is best to consult an attorney, but if you cannot do that right now, these privacy policy websites will provide you with some protection until you can have a document drafted for you by your legal advisor.

2. Best practices to avoid sending Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
Takeaway: never send PII if you don't have to do so. If you have worked with me and you read this newsletter regularly, then you know I consider data security an integral part of SEO. Why? Because a data breach is one of the worst forms of marketing you can have, in addition to the problems created for the clients and the business by the actual data breach.

It is better to follow simple steps to prevent inadvertently sharing your or a client's data. In this one-page support article, Google provides advice on how to avoid sending PII to Google when collecting Analytics data.

3. 17 Truly Inspiring Company Vision and Mission Statement Examples

Takeaway: you have to know what you stand for a business, no matter your size. You also have to allow your business to be its own "person" (brand) and develop and grow in ways you may not have expected when you first started it. If you do not know your "so what?" factor and you have not written your Vision and Mission statement(s), then it is time to do so. If you have, but you have been considering revising it, then just do it. Here are a few examples to inspire you.

4. Grammarly: free writing assistant

Takeaway: grammar matters for SEO. "Why?" you may be thinking. Because it is important to make as good an impression as possible to clients and customers. You must have clear and concise writing and ideas. This helps keep people on your site and to sell more.

One way to help you write well is to add a writing assistant, such as Grammarly, to your web browser. You can also install it locally on your computer. Please note, I do not have any affiliation with Grammarly.

5. The three brutal truths about success you must hear

Takeaway: a successful life is not about things, it is about experiences. In this short video, Lisa Nichols lays out the three things she has learned on her road to success, that she wishes she had known.

1. There is a cost to success.
2. It is a very lonely journey.
3. Success is not about the $$$ in your bank account.

Conclusion: don’t leave a full life behind in pursuit of things.
