Destinations                 Inspiration                Special Offers

November 2016

This month's newsletter sees us going back to our African roots - we were one of the first to offer family safaris back in 2004 and today there's not much we don't know about creating a family holiday full of wildlife, adventure and stunning scenery all enjoyed in sublime comfort at some pretty fabulous lodges and hotels. Our 'Spotlight On' has to be Cape Town - the starting for many an African odyssey. For something more off the beaten track though, enjoy reading about Abi's recent trip to Botswana. Finally, it's not too late for some winter sun - feast on our special offers, updated weekly on our website. For more inspiration follow us on twitter, facebook, pinterest  and Instagram.

Where we've been and seen

With winter closing in, Abi escaped the rain and wind for much warmer climes when she headed off to Bostwana last month. Staying under canvas, it was a refreshing return to bucket showers and bush stories around the camp-fire - not to mention a real chance to experience daily life in the local community in between some jaw-dropping wildlife encounters. It's safe to say Botswana captured a little piece of Abi's heart and ours too, when we saw all her amazing pictures. Take a look for yourself by reading her trip report in our latest blog.

Christmas in the Cape

Think ahead to Christmas 2017 - you could stay home, cooking for the in-laws and turning up the heating as you try to think up yet another indoor activity that will keep the children entertained, or you could be soaking up the sun, exploring new places and generally being wined and dined in the Cape. Now is absolutely the time to book if you want your pick of accommodation and the best deal on flights when they are released. South Africa still offers good value with the weakened pound but wait until January to book and you risk missing out on your hotel choices as everyone rushes to book their 2017 stint in the sun. As a little Christmas gift, for any bookings to Cape Town made by 23rd December 2016, we'll treat you to a cable-car ride to the top of Table Mountain!

Top tip: as the foodie capital of South Africa, there is a smorgasbord of top-notch restaurants, rivaling any in London, but book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Just ask - we're happy to make recommendations as part of our service.

Go to: the top of Table Mountain - it's an absolute must and best done on your first day as it's a great way to get your bearings after the fun of the revolving cable-car ascent.

Stay: admittedly you are spoilt for choice in Cape Town, but we have a particular soft spot for The Vineyard. It's not just the name that appeals - with an amazing pool, beautiful gardens, oodles of space to roam and great rates which don't skyrocket during Peak Season, it's a winner all round. Oh and did we mention there are giant tortoises roaming the grounds and complimentary weekly wine tastings?!

In the news

We're going East this month - Asia is offering unrivalled value for families wanting to escape the Brexit blues. Our programmes to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia are well established but Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have been tempting us for a long time with their unique mix of culture, history, beach and wildlife. December sees us including Vietnam on our website for the first time, so watch this space if you're keen to add some Asian spice to your life as we'll shortly be introducing you to some of our favourite places to stay, including a cruise on a traditional Junk in the stunning Halong Bay no less.
