June 2017

Are your children at the age where the pleas to visit Disney are reaching a crescendo? Have your tweens developed a taste for fast roller-coasters that Chessington can no longer fulfil? If it all feels a little overwhelming and you don't quite know where to start, our newsletter this month will give you some great tips - for theme-park novices, those who've been before and those seeking some creative ideas for how to turn a Florida holiday into something a little more real-world and adventurous!

Our June special offers, focusing on Florida might well tempt you or see our website for offers to other destinations. For more inspiration follow us on twitter, facebook, pinterest  and Instagram.

Where we've been and seen

We love an Easter holiday here at Bushbaby - it's the perfect time of year to travel long-haul and the lure of some early season sunshine is strong! With Abi's youngest, Imy, a big Disney fan, this Easter saw the Shaws heading off to Orlando to re-visit the parks, see some new hotels and fit in some down-time on the beach. With teen boys to entertain too, Abi knows all too well the challenges of keeping everyone happy so has put together a bit of an insider guide for this month's blog. There's even a suggested itinerary, with our recommendations on where to stay and how to use your precious days wisely, so you fit everything in, but enjoy some relaxation too!

Busch Gardens & Sea World

These two brilliant parks are often overlooked when you factor in all the publicity surrounding Disney and Universal, but we think they should definitely feature on your 'must see' list.  There are some great wildlife interaction experiences for all ages and for anyone looking for an adrenalin-kick, they definitely get the teen vote for the best roller-coasters.

If a holiday just isn't complete without some beach action, an easy extension could include a drive down to Boca Raton (there just might be a sun-lounger with your name on at the Boca Beach Club) or Florida Keys (Hawks Cay Island Resort is our favourite place to stay). Another option is to head west to Captiva Island where a stay at the South Seas Island Resort will ensure you return home pleasantly relaxed and rested. The Caribbean isn't too far away either - there are plentiful flights from Miami, which is only about 3-4 hours drive south of Orlando.

In the news

The much anticipated opening of the new Universal Volcano Bay Water Park took place on 25th May. Staying open as late as 10pm it shows off the transformation of the centerpiece mountain from daytime waterfalls to nighttime lava flows. Parents will be pleased to hear it also promises to do away with two hassles that are the bane of any water park visit: waiting in lines and carrying rafts up flights of stairs.

At Disney, the equally eagerly awaited Pandora: World of Avatar has recently opened at Animal Kingdom. The main attraction is a Banshee flight simulator, similar to Soarin' at Epcot and Disney California Adventure. You'll also be able to enjoy an immersive indoor boat ride similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, which will take riders on a river journey through the illuminated forest of Pandora no less.
