February 2018

If you're longing to escape the 'Beast from the East' and feel warm sun on your face, but are seeking a holiday that offers more than just a beach break, a 7 hour flight will deliver you to the warm shores of the Middle East. Basking in sunshine but also brimming with desert adventure and offering fascinating insights to local culture, the UAE and Oman also get top marks for high-adrenalin fun - whether it's high speed slides in the water parks, navigating the rolling dunes at Wahiba Sands in a 4WD or camel trekking in Ras al-Khaimah. With our insider tips, we can suggest how best to keep costs in check without compromising on luxury or experience; perhaps incorporate some self-drive, opt for a lesser known emirate than Dubai, combine your beach stay with city life, or stay at a hotel that offers great family-friendly benefits.

Abu Dhabi

If you're looking for year-round sunshine and beautiful white-sand beaches, shelving into warm water against a backdrop of sweeping desert dunes Abu Dhabi is for you. It's not just about luxury hotels, beaches, relaxation and tradition though; it's increasingly the vibrant, modern, cultural face of the UAE with top notch attractions such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld.

Stay at our pick of the hotels - the Park Hyatt, Abu Dhabi Hotel & Villas or the Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi Hotel if it's F1 that appeals! You'll be pleasantly surprised at the price tag compared to some resorts in neighbouring Dubai.

Dubai

There's plenty to distract you from beach-time pleasure here; take off into the desert, try your hand at camel riding, watch a falconry display or visit the Nad Al Sheba racecourse. Adrenalin-seekers can take to the slopes at Ski Dubai or try Wadi Bashing - traversing rocky valleys in a 4WD. Wild Wadi Water Park offers a jaw-dropping range of fun rides, from hurtling down the 33m high Jumeirah Sceirah at 80 km per hour to cruising on the gentle current of Juha’s Journey lazy river. The Palm is also host to Aquaventure, the piece-de-resistance being a slide through a shark-infested lagoon, thankfully enclosed!

Oman
The Sultanate of Oman is a land of friendly people and dramatic landscapes. Lucky visitors love the exceptional nature and cultural experiences on offer, in perfect complement to some stunning beaches. Divers and snorkellers are lured by the pristine underwater reserves, teeming with marine life such as dolphins and whales, whilst the sight of turtles nesting on the wide sandy beaches are a delight. In-land you can explore the many historic forts, visit the Oryx Sanctuary near Hajmah, drive a 4WD through the rolling dunes at Wahiba Sands or take a camel trek through the desert, ending with an Omani feast under a star-lit sky.

Our intrepid Finance Manager Alison enjoyed a half-term self-drive break in Oman with her family - find out more about their itinerary in our latest blog 'Omani Beach & Culture with Teens in Tow'
Ras al-Khaimah

The emirate of Ras al-Khaimah is an undiscovered gem; enjoy the warm climate, beautiful beaches and desert panoramas of the region, but without the Dubai price-tag. It's the perfect backdrop for a relaxing break in the sun and whilst most visitors tend to stay in resort, beguiled by the incredibly good rates and top-class accommodation, desert adventures await those who venture further afield.

For families we love the Waldorf Astoria Ras al-Khaimah.
