January 2020

Happy New Year - here's hoping the 20s are good to us all!

This month we're embracing long-standing favourites and taking a look at what's new for 2020!

Most revelationary newcomer goes to Rwanda. Abi is one very well-travelled lady but Rwanda wowed her in the most unexpected ways; from the exuberant, warm welcome, to the charm and positive ambience of its capital city. And that's before she set eyes on the chimps, gorillas and colobus monkeys!

Meanwhile, South Africa and Mauritius remain our dream team. Year in, year out they deliver but with extra little delights that we just love, be it an innovative new safari, a fabulous new family villa, or appealing special offer that's just too good to pass up. You literally can't go wrong.

If you're still planning your 2020 family adventure, do give us a call and we can share our insider knowledge and top tips to ensure it's a holiday to remember for all the right reasons!

Rwanda

Why go in 2020?
From the rainforest habitat of the gorillas in Volcanoes National Park to the mesmerising wildlife of Akagera and from the vibrant capital, Kigali, to the bougainvillea-fringed shores of Lake Kivu, Rwanda is our most surprising new destination.  One & Only Gorilla's Nest and One & Only Nyungwe House cater to families with teens looking to experience off-the-beaten-track wild-life based adventure but with all the comforts and experience of the One&Only brand.

Cambodia

Why go in 2020?
No longer just a cultural add-on to Thailand or Vietnam, Cambodia is the full package. Fascinating culture check. Stunning beaches check. Family adventure - yes indeed. Throw in the incredibly friendly welcome and serious value for money and you have a 2 week family-friendly itinerary that ticks all your boxes and more. Plenty for school 'show and tell' too - circus workshop anyone? Take a peak at the newly added Shinta Mani Shack for a quirky, family-friendly base in Siem Reap.

Japan

Why go in 2020?
Our most 'newsy' new destination, Japan is perfect for touring. The iconic bullet train is the ideal way to travel from one end of the country to the other; across mountainous peaks, past paddy fields, to arrive in an urban metropolis of cutting-edge technology, futuristic fashion and must-have gadgets punctuated by peaceful shrines, leafy lanes and quirky small shops. Tokyo is a city that boldly takes centre stage as it counts down to hosting the Summer Olympic Games.

Belize

Why go in 2020?
This little nation packs a punch. Small but mighty, you could be diving the famous Blue Hole, snorkelling the world's second biggest barrier reef, touring the almost 900 Mayan ruins, visiting a jaguar sanctuary or just soaking up the sun on the golden beaches of Placencia peninsula. Watch this space as we'll be adding some fantastic new two-centre itineraries as we expand our Central America offering.

Sri Lanka

Why go in2020?
Six months after the FCO lifted the travel ban for this enchanting tropical island the welcoming locals are doing all they can to entice visitors back. Not that you need an excuse! Sri Lanka is one of those rare jewels that offers discovery and relaxation in spades, wrapped up in an alluring package that includes superb beaches, colonial heritage, soft adventure galore and divine food. You can see it all on a round-trip with your very own driver-guide, whatever time of year you visit. We're feeling a lot of love for the charming Teardrop hotels - take a look at the views on offer at Camellia Hills!

South Africa

Why go in 2020?
Travel writer Simon Parker has visited over half the countries in the world for the BBC but still rates South Africa as 'the indisputable champion of the sub-Saharan safari’ - as do we! Riding on the coat-tails of their 2019 Rugby World Cup triumph, Africa’s powerhouse leads the way with animal conservation efforts and innovative safaris. &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, is a prime example having just launched a unique Night Eye Experience, allowing khaki-clad wildlife fans the chance to unlock the shadowy mysteries of the African bush, with infrared cameras.

Costa Rica

Why go in 2020?
If you want to see sleepy sloths in trees, red-eyed frogs, and whales in the Pacific this is the place to come and you can do it guilt-free. El Remanso Lodge is a favourite with clients. Costa Rica is really leading the way when it comes to sustainable tourism. The locals are passionate about preserving their slice of tropical paradise and sharing the experience with lucky visitors while living in harmony with nature's inhabitants. With an eco-friendly power grid and an aggressive decarbonization plan they are on track to become carbon neutral by 2021. Pura vida as the locals say!

Ecuador & The Galapagos

Why go in 2020?
The renowned and unique Galapagos Islands are a bucket-list destination for any wildlife enthusiast, whatever their age - it really is like stepping into an episode of Blue Planet. What we love about Ecuador though, is that it also offers a compact but hugely diverse travel circuit on the mainland. Where else can you fit in a stay at a historic hacienda, take a heritage train ride into the foothills of the Andes, straddle the equator and round things off with a stay at the uber contemporary Mashpi Lodge, a National Geographic Lodge positioned bang in the middle of one of our planet’s biodiversity hotspots?
