Hey! I've had a number of projects in the works this summer, and then it became autumn, and I've not thought to send an un-asked-for update until now.
Below! very brief summaries of some of my recent goings-on...

Checks & Balances:

I've got work in a new exhibition at SPACE in downtown Pittsburgh through November 28. Presented with the 2016 International Sculpture Conference, Checks & Balances, curated by Murray Horne (of Wood Street Galleries), "investigates notions of dualities inherent within contemporary sculptural practice". I'm in there with five other great regionally-based sculptors: Jill Larson, Jasen Bernthisel, Paul Bowden, Sarika Goulatia, and Brandon Boan. I posted pictures of the exhibit, as well as a little writing about what I'm showing, over at the Justseeds blog.

I worked on the packaging for the newest Justseeds portfolio, Wellspring; a portfolio celebrating water. An affordable portfolio of 12 Risograph prints, Wellspring is "intended to further the dialogue about this elemental issue, to become a useful buoy in a sea of bad news." I designed and printed a fabric bandana which wraps around the outside of the portfolio, and the paper band which holds it all in place. You can check out the portfolio here, and the bandanas themselves (which say "Water is Life" around the hemmed edges in 22 languages) will be available mid-November.

8 Bells Scrimshandry:
I've been practicing the arcane craft of scrimshaw (meticulous engraving of designs on bone, etc) for years, on and off. This summer I decided to see if I could make some part of my living off of this craft, rendered as jewelry. In September, 8 Bells Scrimshandry was born, currently an online Etsy shop. Fauna: A Penny Press
... is a penny smasher I've been building with Stuart Anderson for almost two years now, and you can see the output from the raw, unfinished machine here. Right now, unfortunately, the project is once again on hold because of various life circumstances - not the least of which is the massive building Stuart bought, which is currently being renovated into the Bloomcraft cooperative artist/maker/activist/&c space. I just helped move Justseeds' office in there last week! Anyway we'll be back at it mid-December, aiming to finally finish the beast, probably in time for another update email...
West Virginia Mine Wars Museum:
I haven't been involved in the museum much this spring/summer, but I did pen the first of a series of articles about our exhibits for In These Hills, our new newsletter compiled by board member Chuck Keeney. You can read the article here, or download the first issue right here. I'd also like to highly recommend my colleague/WVMWM board member Catherine Moore's excellent article 'The Book of the Dead' in the latest issue of Oxford American, but at the moment it's not online. It's worth finding a hand-held copy of the magazine to read.

Stay tuned for information about our membership drive in late November...
...thanks as always for reading, and staying in touch with what I'm working on!
