BACK TO SCHOOL -- Let's talk about Health Literacy!
We all want to help kids become adults who are health literate.  But what does health literacy mean?  Here are some key elements of what the term "health literacy" means to kids, and adults:
  • Know where to get accurate health information
  • Understand the health information
  • Apply the information to make good decisions
Here are some resources that discuss promoting health literacy for kids:
Plymouth Area Community Health & Wellness Fair, Saturday, September 28th,10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Plymouth Public Library hosts an informative and fun event for all ages, with information sessions, 18 local health and wellness provider tables, healthy snacks, fun events for children, BID-Plymouth Lung Cancer Screening, Children's Melanoma Foundation's facial scanning booth, fitness talk, memory building session, and kids health tips for parents. (Free flu shots - depending on vaccine supply)  Program funding from a Health Literacy grant from the South Shore Community Partners in Prevention, CHNA-23.
Have a Great "Fall"
Fall begins on September 23rd this year.  We all enjoy the falling leaves, but "having a fall" is not enjoyable for anyone, especially for older Americans. According to the National Institute on Aging, "...each year, more than 2 million older Americans go to the emergency room because of fall-related injuries. A simple fall can cause a serious fracture of the arm, hand, ankle, or hip."

But don’t let a fear of falling keep you from exercising and being physically active. Overcoming this fear can help you stay active, maintain your physical health, and prevent future falls. The good news is that there are simple ways you can prevent most falls. See this link for more information: .
