POLICY BRIEF JUST RELEASED The UN Network on Migration's Working Group on Alternatives to Immigration Detention, co-led by IDC alongside UNHCR and UNICEF, released practical guidance for States and stakeholders on responding to COVID-19 in the context of immigration detention and ATD. Read it here. Contributions from IDC members were fundamental to ground the document in the realities of COVID-19, and illustrate recommendations with country-specific examples.

We're very pleased to share that we have appointed IDC members to serve as focal points for IDC in the Africa and MENA regions!

Insaf Mounadi will monitor detention developments in North Africa, identifying challenges and opportunities for the development of ATD. The role will have a primary focus on Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, and a watching brief on Morocco and Algeria.

Wayne Ncube of Lawyers for Human Rights in South Africa will similarly monitor developments and opportunities for ATD implementation across Southern Africa, with a primary focus on South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania.
