New Children

This month we received eight new children at the home. Five of the children are from the same family: Oliver (11), Ely (9), Melany (7), David (6) and Eunice (4). Two of the children from another family are also siblings: Marlon (11) and Katherine (6). Alicia (7) arrived by herself. We are excited to see what God has planned for all these new children and ask that you would be in prayer for them as they adjust to life here at Agua Viva. Community Prayer Walk

In a beautiful display of God’s love, the Agua Viva children went out with Pastor Dave into the community to pray for and encourage some of our local families. They visited the home of one of our students who was recently in a serious car accident. They also went to the home of an Agua Viva house parent who had the day off. She invited the whole group into her small house.

It’s encouraging to see our children putting their faith into action. They are all looking forward to more community outreach projects later this year!

Celebrating Guatemalan Culture

The Agua Viva School recently celebrated a cultural day where everyone, students and teachers alike, dressed in traditional clothing. Each class shared a presentation about a specific aspect of Guatemalan culture, which is quite rich and varied. The school strives to instill a healthy pride and respect for the many cultures and traditions that have shaped Guatemalan history and continue to influence life throughout the country.

Tackling a Tough Job

On a recent Saturday morning, Mark Schlax led our older boys who now live in a transitional home in Chimaltenango in an important work project. They cleaned and sanitized the main tank that holds water drawn from a well in front of the Agua Viva School. Although a challenging job, the team was able to complete the work on schedule. Thanks guys!

First Trip to the Zoo

We were excited to take our littlest children to the zoo. It was a day full of firsts for many as most had never traveled to the city and none had ever been to the zoo. They loved looking at all the animals and getting to ride the tour train around the campus. They also enjoyed a special lunch out at a restaurant which was another first for most of them.

Young Artesians

Some of the students in the technical and artesian training program at Agua Viva held a special sale at the school. Members from a visiting mission team were delighted to see all the handiwork and were especially impressed by the quality of the paintings. The young people kept a potion of what they earned for personal use and reinvested the rest into more supplies to continue making and selling their products in the future.

Inspirational Fundraising

We love to hear stories about the many creative ways our supporters have discovered to raise funds for Agua Viva. Abbey Barnette from Seton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio is just such an inspiration. After visiting Agua Viva with her high school last summer, she wanted to find a way to raise money to buy Spanish books for the Agua Viva library programs.

She decided that this would be the focus of her “senior project” at Seton High School, and in the end she raised over $700 to purchase 120 books.

Thank you Abbey for all your hard work and the love you have shown to our children and students here! If you have an idea for a fundraiser or would like to share a story about a fundraiser you have already done, please contact Misi
at avsponsorship@gmail.com.
