Pure religion is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction...  James 1.27

A “Home” for the Holidays

During the Christmas holidays, the children placed at Agua Viva by the government due to abuse or neglect are not permitted to return home for family visits. But thankfully we have loving house parents who volunteer to take some of these children home with them for a day or two.

Alejandra and her siblings, Alex and Genesis, fall into this category of abuse or neglect, but they were blessed to spend a weekend with house parent, Nora, and her family. They went shopping and also to church.

The children loved meeting all of Nora’s family and spending time together as siblings doing special games and activities. Alejandra said she enjoyed seeing how Nora’s family members interact with one another, as she did not grow up in a family that communicated in a positive manner.

Fredy Graduates

After much hard work and dedication to his high school studies, Fredy graduated from military school with a certification in aviation mechanics. He has been a part of our off campus transiton program for the past several years and has already found a job working at a company connected to the aviation industry.

Special Holiday Activities

A large number of our children are not able to visit their families during the holidays, but the Agua Viva house parents and other staff work hard to make vacations special. The cooks help by planning outdoor picnics and bonfires. Each house takes turns inviting other houses over for “dinner and a movie”. The house parents and other staff add variety to each day by planning different outings. After taking the children to church in Chilmaltenango one Sunday, Agua Viva staff treated the children to lunch at Pollo Campero!

We are thankful for our staff that put much loving care and effort into blessing our children during a time when it is especially hard not to be with family.

Meet the New Girls

Jessica (9) and Selina (6) recently arrived at Agua Viva, bringing a ray of sunshine with them. These two sisters have a contagious amount of energy and their smiles have helped them make friends quickly. Please pray that Jessica and Selina continue to settle in well here and that they come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior!

Vacation Bible School

Agua Viva hosted a five-day VBS program during the school break with over 100 children in attendance by the end of the week! Pastor Dave focused his Bible messages on Peter’s life, ministry, and relationship with Jesus, encouraging the children to start their own relationship with God.

A number of dedicated youth counselors helped coordinate the activities, arriving early every day to pray for the children. The counselors were inspired by the children’s desire to learn about God and apply the lessons to their lives.

Please pray that the seeds planted at this year’s VBS would grow, and that the Lord would be at work in the hearts of the children!

Christmas Donations

Thank you to everyone who donated gifts, clothes, and shoes for the children at Christmas. Not only did we have plenty of Christmas gifts for the children, but we were also able to fill our birthday closet and help a few of our staff with gifts for their families! We are overwhelmed by your generosity.

Thanks for your loving support!
