Pure religion is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction...  James 1.27

Striving to Be Our Best

Agua Viva hosted two academic competitions this past year, drawing students from five other schools. We want all of our students to strive to be their very best in every area of life, to include academics.

We are proud of the Agua Viva students who participated in the latest competition. We had three students earn first place honors, six second place, and two third place. May the Lord guide and direct the steps of all our students, and encourage each child to fully utilized his/her God given talents and gifts.

Siblings Staying Together

Augusto (16) and his twin sisters Sonia (8) and Ruth (8) have lived at Agua Viva for almost eight years now. Augusto loves playing soccer with the other boys and he especially loves the challenge of playing against other teams from outside the home. One of his favorite memories is when he and some of the other boys built a bicycle ramp. He was very proud of the fact that he was the only one to walk away without lots of bruises from that experience.

Sonia and Ruth love outdoor activities, especially their afternoon Zumba exercise with the girls. Though their brother, Augusto, doesn’t live in the same house, he always tries to care for them, sticking up for them and teasing them in true brotherly fashion. The girls love his attention, though they would never admit it!

Please pray for these siblings that they would grow in their love of the Lord and closer to each other.

World Robotics Champion

Jarelyn graduated from Agua Viva Middle School and is currently a part of our high school financial assistance program. When she learned that her high school had a robotics team she immediately wanted to join. Jarelyn recently said, “I thought in my heart that I wanted to be in this group, and with God’s help, I accomplished it.”

The team spent five months building a remote controlled robot for their specific challenge. Imagine how they felt when their team was chosen to represent Guatemala at the VEX World Robotics Competition where they won second place! Jerelyn is grateful to Agua Viva for helping her to continue her studies in high school and for giving her an excellent educational base in science, computers, math, and basic physics.

We are proud of Jarelyn and all our graduates who are using their amazing talents to pursue a better life! Jarelyn plans to go on to college to pursue dentistry as a profession.

Independence Day Celebration

Agua Viva staff and children plan a number of activities each year to celebrate Independence Day in Guatemala. One of the highlights is running with the torch, a symbol of freedom. Another important activity is a parade around the local community.

Cultivating Artistic Talents

Nehemias, one of our Agua Viva house parents, has been working with Irma and Ever to improve their artistic skills. Nehemias has seen a lot of improvement in their work and hopes that they will one day have galleries of their own paintings.

Many of our supporters know that we have high year-end expenses at Agua Viva. This year is especially critical as our reserves are dangerously low. In fact, based on our current reserve level, we must find ways to significantly reduce expenses at Agua Viva for 2017. Donations from now through the end of the year will help determine the magnitude of the expense reductions. Would you consider a special gift to the Guatemala Children’s Mission?
