Jakarta, Indonesia - 15 December 2016: The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), in cooperation with the Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) and the Government of Japan hosted an international symposium on 'World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) 2016 - Indonesia.' There have been many statements in the media lately about the impact of the United States election on Asia, and specifically regarding President-elect Trump’s comments about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The authors have run the gamut from despair that TPP is lost forever to glee that the situation presents an unprecedented opportunity for proponents of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to get ahead. However, it is deceptive to understand either of these initiatives through such an oppositional framework. Indeed, in considering the goal of Asian Regional Integration, evaluating RCEP independently allows a nuanced discussion of why acceleration of the agreement is important right now, regardless of the status of TPP. ERIA CADP Research Team Conducts Site Visits in Cambodia

A research team from ERIA on the Comprehensive Asia Development Plan (CADP) travelled from Pleiku in Viet Nam to Poipet in Cambodia by car. The purpose of the road trip was to conduct a site visit to several infrastructure projects that are listed in CADP 1.0, CADP 2.0, as well as other projects related to the ASEAN Connectivity and Southern Economic Corridor of the Greater Mekong Subregion. Read more.
