The collection is complete! As you know, the committee and the board have been on the road the a lot lately to select the best foals. Again they managed to select an interesting list of foals that will be auctioned on Tuesday, September 13th and Wednesday, September 14th at Ermelo.

The auction catalogue is not complete without pictures of the foals. This Friday and Saturday all foals will be present at Paardensportcentrum Gert van den Hoorn in Kootwijk, to make the picures and the videos. You are welcome to visit and take a look at the foals! Via the link below you can see when which foal is scheduled. The list is selected by day followed by sire. If you have questions, please contact us.

While the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are coming closer and closer, the list of participating horses is becoming completer every week. It also becomes more and more clear that the collection of Foal Auction Prinsjesdag 2016 is very often related to the Olympic horses for Rio!

Last Sunday, the Dutch dressage team for Rio de Janeiro was announced: Glock's Johnson N.O.P., Glock's Voice, Jerich Parzival N.O.P. and Arlando N.O.P. will represent the Netherlands at the Olympic Games.
Olympic medal contender Glock’s Johnson is represented by no less than seven (!) foals in the 2016 Prinsjesdag-collection. Five very interesting colts and two quality fillies by Johnson will be auctioned in Ermelo at Wednesday the 14th of September. The genes of Johnson are three times combined with the foundation sire Rousseau. The damline of Jerich Parzival N.O.P. is also represented by La Baule-STRH. This Millenium x Zhivago colt’s granddam is the famous mare Orleans - full sister Jerich Parzival.

But the Prinsjesdag-foals are not only related to the Dutch Olympic dressage horses. German Olympian Desperados FRH will be represented by two direct sons in the auction and is also closely related to filly Latin Music KL – filly by Le Vivaldi out of the half-sister of Desperados. The Swedish Olympic stallion to be Dante Weltino has two colts in the auction as well. Through the famous sire Negro, the genes of reigning Olympic champion Valegro can once again be found in the collection of Prinsjesdag as well. Two colts and two fillies from Negro will be auctioned in September this year.
The Dutch showjumping team will be SFN Zenith N.O.P., Emerald N.O.P., VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P. and VDL Groep Verdi TN N.O.P. and their genes are also represented multiple times in the Prinsjesdag-collection. The impressive Zirocco Blue has one colt and one filly in the collection and world-class showjumper Verdi also has a colt in the auction. Probably the most striking Rio-related foal is Quartina DC – a filly by Comme Il Faut out of the half-sister of wonderful Emerald N.O.P.
Notable are also the three offspring of Quickly de Kreisker – the stallion who will attend the Olympics representing Morocco. Very unique is the colt of Brazilian superstar Quabri de l'Isle – the son of Kannan who only sires few foals per year. A filly by Hardrock Z, who will probably represent Venezuela in Rio, is included in the collection as well.

Peter Bleeker from Hulsen-Nijverdal is co-founder of Prinsjesdag National Foal Auction and member of the selection committee. In 2014 he earned the title of KWPN Breeder of the Year for the Province of North Holland because of the high quality and excellently performing breeding products in dressage.
- Why are you involved with Prinsjesdag Foal Auction?
“I have been involved with Prinsjesdag from the very start, that is already 23 years ago. We started with people from the study club Noord Holland Noord with, amongst others, Gerrit Deen, Jos Ligthart and Piet Meinen. After a few years that became a separate foundation. The auction was successful, but the work got too much and that was the moment that EQ International was attracted as our ‘work horse’. The auction moved to Ermelo and received an extra impulse. My motivation is that I am crazy about breeding. You go everywhere and meet new people who all share the same passion. I still find it extremely fascinating. Besides, it is almost like a competition, you want everything to do with the auction to get better and better. You try to be the best of the Netherlands, if not the whole of Europe.”

- Does it have a connection with your own breeding?
“I still remember, as if it was yesterday, that we started with the Vincent daughter Dola, who received a second premium at the selection with a foal at foot. Not a very successful start, but later she earned the elite-, sport-, preferent- and prestatie-awards and she produced six offspring ranging from Z1-level to Grand Prix in dressage. Nowadays I breed about five foals a year. It is already fifteen years ago that we started to specialize in breeding dressage horses. Lotje Schoots started them in the sport, such as Dola’s daughters Reine B in Grand Prix dressage and Tsarina B in the Small Tour. I have always found sport records very important and buyers of dressage foals should perhaps pay more attention to that. Investors into showjumping foals are well ahead, where this is concerned. The most expensive dressage foal is still often the classiest foal with a dark colour that shows itself ‘by throwing out its legs’. Look at the De Niro foals, for example. Often not the most beautiful foals, not even as 3-yr-olds. But there are 800 of them registered in Germany of which 200 are performing at S-level in dressage. In fact, 25% is performing at Inter I to Grand Prix level in dressage, so the chances that your new purchase has the same qualities to reach that level are very high. Sport in the dam’s line is also very important and an absolute criterion in our selection process. That is not exactly easy. There is plenty of offer, but there are not really a lot of very special foals. The pond is not that large and everyone is looking for the same top-class fish. It is a real challenge to contract these special foals for Prinsjesdag.”

Last weekend the former Prinsjesdag-foals Arc de Triomphe, Gigolo III and Costa Date achieved some wonderful placings at international level. Ridden by Frank Schuttert, Arc de Triomphe (Triomphe de Muze x Calvados) showed off his qualities at the Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard, while Gigolo III (Cassini II x Chin Chin) ridden by Rachel Sandoz and Costa Date (Vingino x Quidam de Revel) ridden by Hannah Selleck competed at Knokke Hippique.

Frank Schuttert and Arc de Triomphe concluded their weekend in Valkenswaard with a well-deserved 4th place in the U25 1.40m class on Sunday. Switzerland’s Rachel Sandoz finished in 4th position with Gigolo III in the CSI2* 1.45m ladies only competition at Knokke Hippique.

USA’s Hannah Selleck secured a victory aboard Costa Date in Knokke. Selleck took over the reins of the 9-year-old from Mexico’s Juan Pablo Gaspar Albañez only weeks ago, but immediately took home the victory in the CSI2* 1.45m competition.
