Local Food Events

Winter is when farmers go to meetings and conferences - and there are so many of them!

Here are a few upcoming educational opportunities:

Grundy County Extension in Coalmont has scheduled a Farm Fresh Produce Handing Safety Workshop for February 19, 2016 at the UT Extension Office in Coalmont to begin at 10 a.m.  Topics will include food safety program (general GAPs), writing a food safety plan, and information on outlining the Produce Safety Rule.  Watch for more information. ***For growers who are interested in GAP certification, Risa Brown, former food hub coordinator, put together a handbook on GAP certification on small farms. This is available and can be borrowed from the lending library at the Sewanee Community Center. ***

Other conferences for farmers:

SSAWG Conference - January 27-30 in Lexington, KY

Pick TN Conference (Including the Tennessee Organic Growers Association) - February 11-13, Knoxville, TN

GA Organics Conference - February 26-27. Columbus, GA
The South Cumberland Farmer's Market and the South Cumberland Food Hub are divisions of Rooted Here, located in Sewanee, Tenn., an organization of farmers, artisans, and agricultural producers who work together to facilitate and expand the sale of local products; provide education, services, and support to farmers and consumers; and lay the groundwork for a just, equitable, and sustainable local food economy.
