Tomato Arugula Pesto

(Mary Ann's favorite recipe)

Basil season will be at an end before we know it. Now is a great time to make pesto to freeze and enjoy this winter. Simply leave out the cheese and freeze in small bags or ice cube trays (for individual servings). Thaw when you need a taste of summer!

Leslie's Food Justice Blog - Local farmer and novelist, Leslie Lytle, has posted a new blog entry on why you should purchase local fruits and vegetables. Her newest entry also looks at some exciting local programs.

Solace Farm Homestead Blog - The Rae family has completed the inspection process to become Certified Naturally Grown and they have added some new sheep to their list of animals.

Summer Fields in Monteagle will have grass fed lamb available soon on the market and is currently taking pre-orders for whole lamb packages. Whole lamb packages will be offered at a discount and provide the customer with the option of choosing the cuts. Email Jess for more information or to be added to the pre-order list.

Market News

We welcome two new growers this week: Junior Michael (of Michael's Farm) is a 7th generation farmer. His farm is primarily dedicated to potatoes which he will be listing in the bulk section of the market. He is also pleased to be able to share his abundance of zucchini and yellow squash.
 
Bountiful Harvest Farms surprised us when they came on the market last week. They have been blessed this fall with delicious tomatoes (some heirloom), several varieties of tender green beans, summer squash, and sweet potatoes. They love growing them and hope you enjoy eating them! 

Ginger of Ginger's Produce has a huge, beautiful, chemical free patch of turnip greens. She also has October beans by the pound or in larger quantities to freeze / store. She has been picking them herself in the rain for the last 2 days. She said if she had waited any longer she would have had to have used a boat to get to them!

The Bread Peddler still has wild fermented pickles, kimchi, and sauerkraut available!
