Stop by our Outdoor Market on Tuesday from 4:30-5:30 at the Sewanee Community Center!

Our recent customer survey confirmed that many of our customers like to see the products that they are going to buy before they buy them (not surprising). For that reason we are encouraging our growers to set up outside on Tuesday afternoon. Come on by and join the fun - sales, samples, and socializing all encouraged!  If you are not a regular grower, and you are  interested in selling outside on Tuesdays please email the board for more details.

Questions and Answers

Where are all of the peaches and apples?

We have gotten this question a lot lately so I thought I'd answer it for anyone who might be wondering. We have had some delicious fruits in the past and we will have more as soon as the season begins -  we have some growers currently lined up. If you know of other people who are growing fruit in the area - please put them in touch with us.

In years past the food hub has traveled to Crow Mountain Orchard in Alabama to pick up peaches and apples for the market as well as for the University. Unfortunately, this trip (close to 100 miles round) is too expensive and we have had to stop (though the economics are always changing as we pick up new growers).

We have also learned over the years that fruit is a favorite for people who buy and resell produce. Though this practice has some merits, it is not always transparent where the produce is originating or how it was grown and so it is not allowed on our market. We have had growers do this in the past and we have asked them to stop which unfortunately has had the consequence of fewer fruits. Again, we do plan to have more  fruit this year, but we are always interested in fruit growers so feel free to pass along names. Thanks!
