Fall 2018 Updates
Beads of Courage is Narrative Medicine.
Suffering is alleviated by providing the child with a language in which to communicate about their treatment journey. Every bead you give is a dose of narrative medicine that helps that child communicate to others their story in a visual and tangible way.

Beads of Courage is an Arts-in-Medicine Program.
The arts provide direct benefits to patients’ physical, mental and emotional recovery, reducing anxiety, decreasing the perception of pain, providing a sense of control, reducing stress and loneliness, and providing opportunities for emotional and self-expression.

Please invite Beads of Courage Members to display their Beads of Courage at the bedside or bring to clinic as they become a great way to start encouraging conversations and strengthen rapport.
“I think of the joy in her voice when someone would notice her beads hanging from her IV pole and ask her what they were for and she would say…those are everything I have been through, aren’t they pretty!” – Maude & Alyssa Miller

Beads of Courage member, Kalea, shared her beads when she met the Property Brothers!
Her mom says: "She was, and still is, beaming and so proud to have worn her beads, and even told people in the crowd what they were about and for. Not bad for 6 years old!"
