A Beads of Courage, Inc. newsletter specifically for our member hospital Partners in Caring!
Summer 2018 Updates
Act of Courage beads are designed to be used for moments of courage above and beyond the other beads in the program. Because they are handmade and donated to Beads of Courage, and the Beads of Courage member hospitals are growing exponentially, they are limited in supply.
So what do you do if your Act of Courage beads are limited? CLICK HERE to view a guide on when to use alternative beads to Act of Courage beads. Families and their clinicians will know what will best represent that act of courage for each child!
Please print this resource for your clinicians to use!

We are asking Beads of Courage ambassadors and clinicians to share stories about using Act of Courage beads with Beads of Courage members!

Do you have any stories to share about moments of courage where you were able to give a child or teen a special Act of Courage Bead? What did they receive it for? Why did you choose the particular bead for that particular instance? How do you feel it helped the child or teen? Please share any feedback with us!

We would love to hear about your experience as a clinician using the Act of Courage beads.

If you have any Beads of Courage members who would like to share their own experience, please CLICK HERE and share this link with them!

The Beads of Courage Flagship program might be where the organization started, supporting children and teens in the hospital with serious illnesses, but did you know that Beads of Courage also offers many complementary programs to the flagship program?

As the organization grew, the needs of others in the lives of these children and teens were identified and wonderful programs were developed! These programs include support for family and friends as well as clinicians. Click on the program listed below to learn about a few of the Beads of Courage Complementary programs!

Bead Strong (for all!)

Please email Krista Burgbacher, Program Manager, with questions about the complementary programs!
On June 21st , Advocate Children's Hospital shared their excitement of starting their Beads of Courage Program in their Oak Lawn and Park Ridge oncology clinics.
They recognized Advocate Christ Medical Center public safety officer, John Frey, and his family for helping to launch the program after a generous donation in memory of his late wife Mary. Every child will receive a bead with Mary's name on it.
Welcome to our bead family Advocate Children's! Thank you for sharing such a great moment!

"The tiniest of beads. They may be tiny but they represent huge things. They represent bravery. Every day his bravery is tested. Some days it’s tested by big things like procedures and pokes. Some days it’s tested by little things like strangers getting too close and touching him when he doesn’t want to be touched.

"They represent grit....

"They represent strength...

"They represent hope, so much hope...

"These beads are a badge of honor. I am so proud to chart, track, organize, collect and string them together for him. This journey is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. One day he will gather up all of these tiny beads and proudly show the world he is a warrior. I couldn’t be more proud." #believeinbeads
