Chamber Update

Hello Everyone
Earlier this month Kellie Pamic and I attended the second gathering of all the Chambers of Commerce in the Moreton Bay Region.  It was rewarding as this gathering was brought together and hosted by MBRIT and RDA as a consequence of a suggestion made by our Chamber.
As we took reports on the activities of other chambers and from RDA, MBRIT, CCIQ and MBRC it became clear that we in the Hills District are a distance away from the growth areas around North Lakes that are claiming the efforts and focus of these very same bodies.
This is not a criticism it is simply the way things work. It sends us a message though to make sure that we “The Hills” are front of mind.
Interestingly the Chambers in these areas are quite small relative to ourselves. Read more here   Ron

The April Women & Business Lunch was a success with lots of sharing around how to generate new business. Thanks to the panel and our our fearless Committee Chairperson Mandy Bell who came in to host and run the event even though she was on holidays!! See some of our photos on Facebook and also below.
Please take the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed constitution before the upcoming AGM. The only change/update since the last link is in Section 10.5 Associate Members to address reciprocal membership between local chambers. View the document here https://goo.gl/1m3xSA  Kellie

At the March breakfast meeting we welcomed our scholarship recipients Tiana Constance, Jeremy Everett & James Mahon. The table discussion was: What’s the greatest piece of advice a parent or mentor has given you? Much discussion ensued.

Our member presentation was from Donna Thistlethwaite who engaged us on issues surrounding 'Workplace Flexibility'.

Our Free Breakfast draw was won by Joke Chadwick.  Attendance of 50 booked seats was a good turnout being our second event in March.

Remember: Membership renewals are now due.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Unfortunately we have a breakfast cost rise so from 1 May 2016 the early bird price will rise to $25.00   Leonard

Reminder:  Membership renewals are now due

Treasurer

Chairperson | Scholarship Committee Craig Cooper

The Chamber continues to maintain a strong financial base as we enter the last few weeks of the financial year, as evident in the table below:-

Cash in Bank             $ 11,936.91
Commitments
Scholarships            - $ 2,307.38

Net Balance -            $  9,629.53

There are some Members and Guests who still owe money for previous functions they attended. If you haven't yet paid, please do so ASAP. If you are unsure if you have paid or not see myself or Leonard and we can confirm. Those who haven't paid by the end 10th of May will be receiving a friendly phone reminder.

Commerce in Schools Committee will be holding a meeting on Wednesday 27th April. Those members who would like to input or would like to attend, please see Lenny Muthiah or myself at the Breakfast on Tuesday. It is a great way for local business owners to build a relationship with local schools and their students to help educate them on the importance of working locally to build a stronger community. We all have business colleagues within the area who we know could benefit from the networking opportunities offered by being involved in the Chamber of Commerce. In many instances, people think that being a member will take up much of their time and don't realise that a couple of hours spent each month at a meeting or lunch could mean the difference between meeting that one person who could introduce them to their next big client or business opportunity.
Encourage others to join, bring them along for breakfast as your guest and let's show others the dynamic people who make up this Chamber.
In the meantime, please forward this newsletter to those who might be looking for the chance to hear what other business people are doing in the Hills & Districts. Feel free to email me with your ideas about how we can spread the Chamber's message. Don't forget to keep an eye out our Facebook page for information and local business news.  Alisa
