After the success of the Meet the Candidates breakfast last month, I am so pleased to be in a position to confirm that we are now able to have face-to-face chamber events, and in this month of October, these have come along with a vengeance!

On 29 October - The Business Expo at the Hope Centre in Buchanan Street Rothwell is the venue for what promises to be one of the few networking Business Expo events in 2020 due to Covid. If you would like further information or would like to become involved with the Chamber Expo Stand, please contact Anita or Hayley.

Friday 23 October, the Everton Park Hotel, is the venue for our First Social Drinks for 2020. These get togethers provide you a chance to socialise, meet new members and learn more about them, and the best thing is that the cost is free!  Everyone is welcome.

Lastly, but certainly not least, do not  forget to book for your ticket at our 27 October Breakfast. Places are limited due to social distancing. Donna Thistlethwaite has arranged another great speaker Thomas Pollock. The topic of Thomas’s address will be….Winning Government Business for Queensland SMEs. In these strange times it could be the ideal opportunity to look for a new source of revenue to keep businesses ticking over.

I cannot stress enough that The Hills District Chamber is your chamber, come along, get involved and meet new members, you will be glad you did on both a professional and personal level.

I look forward to seeing you at the Business Expo.  Mary

This month is National Mental Health Month. It’s always a great time to reflect on your health but now more so than ever. All of us have been impacted by Covid-19 in some way, if only needing to adapt the way we work. For many the impact has been far greater.

I am often hearing people say that they went through a dark time during Covid after the fact. If you find yourself struggling, please reach out to someone. When we do so we can often accelerate the time it takes to get through it and most importantly we can support each other to stay safe. Often the simple process of sharing what’s going on for us can lead to a shift in our experience.

I’m really excited that we’re back meeting face to face and look forward to seeing you at our October breakfast where we have Thomas Pollock sharing tips that can lead to a whole new revenue stream for you. Look forward to seeing you there!   Donna

Is now really a good time to turn down free advertising for your business?

Our Chamber Partner, THE SMALL BUSINESS EXPO, has their Moreton Bay event coming up this month. If you’d like us to promote your business on the day, please provide myself or Anita Bird with one piece of marketing material (e.g. business cards, flyers etc.) before the 21st October - You won't even need to attend the event yourself!

Our first breakfast event back, MEET THE CANDIDATES, was a HUGE success thanks to Brian Battersby and his Advocacy Committee. A huge thank you to Brian and his team, the Leagues Club, members and visitors who attended the event and of course the candidates. It’s exciting to see the return to face to face events and I’m really looking forward to some of our upcoming speakers. Numbers permitted in the room remains limited due to COVID so book early to avoid any disappointment.

Stay tuned to the normal places for updates on our Christmas function which is taking shape. With restrictions continuing to ease we’re excited about the benefits this allows in bringing us back together. Speaking of which, our Social Drinks Fridays are coming back too. You’ll find us back at the Everton Park Hotel from 5.30pm on the 23rd October and the 20th November. Please RSVP via the website so we know to expect you!

Wishing you all well and looking forward to seeing some of you at an event very soon.  Hayley

Another Very Successful Chamber Event
This forum is where 9 State Candidates from either Ferny Grove and Everton attended answering time managed questions and answers, till the audience needs were met. It was a full house of 60 attending under Covid safe spacing rules at Arana Leagues Club, a photo attached.

It was our first Breakfast Forum for such an event and all sides of the politics commented on the quality of the friendly MC (a local) Ian Skippen. Also, on the forum organisation, audience spirit, a fair hearing and the balance all round plus, no adverse comments so far.

Our thanks to the 9 attending Candidates in the two seats of.
Ferny Grove State seat: Mark Furner - ALP sitting member, Joel Colls - Greens, Elton Williams – One Nation, Susan Pini – IMOP and Chris Lehmann - LNP.
Everton State seat:  Tim Mander – LNP sitting member, Helen Rath Greens, Joanne Dissanayake - IMOP and Frank Jordan - Legalise Cannabis.

Thanks to the five months volunteer Committee who were Dr Lynette F, Kent M, Richard F, Lindsay A OAM, John H and Brian B OAM, plus and external help Stuart B.

Now its up to you to decide who you will vote for on Saturday 31st October 2020.

Small Business is a Big Deal On-Going Campaign.
Our Chamber works in co-operation with CCIQ as we both emphasise the huge importance that Small Businesses uniquely delivers right across our State. Were you aware that Queensland has 445,000 Small Business that Employ around 44% within Queensland and they contribute $113billion into the Queensland Economy?

Now with the State Government Election set for Saturday 31st October 2020 CCIQ are working hard to get the Small Business message across to all Candidates. They are communicating to all candidates and their parties just how “we feel” their Party’s Policies rate to support Small Business. This is a huge task and the Rating Score Cards will be posted on CCIQ Website www.cciq.com.au  prior to the State Election.
The Federal Budget speech was delivered Tuesday night 6th October 2020 by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. The photo shows Josh and Prime Minister Scott Morrison congratulating each other covid-19 safety style.
To assist you to cut through media spin, click on this link for the details that could be said may be of more interest to Businesses etc.

This Budget Summary was prepared by CCIQ and distributed to Chambers of Commerce across Queensland. The reason I have provided the link is that there are far too many important items for Business to study and evaluate, than I have space for their details in our Newsletter column.
An Invitation to Chamber Members
Would you like to join our Advocacy Committee as many of the items above are the results from our efforts!  This is what we do as we work to assist Local Businesses and Unite for our Local and Small Business Voices? Call Brian Battersby on Mobile 0418 878 508.
