President

Ron Crump

Hello Everyone

Well the AGM has come and gone and the full Management Team from last year have stepped up again. I thank them.
I attended the joint meeting of Chambers of Commerce this month and it is just so rewarding to hear the various attendees talking constructively about the group and the potential it has to be truly representative of members in the Moreton Bay Region. The numbers attending these meetings are growing and I sense that there are some exciting times ahead.
One of the agreements achieved so far is in the sharing of benefits from other chambers with our members. Redcliffe are using some of our previous presenters.
The other benefit is that our relationships with key organisations within the region has and will continue to grow. I speak here of the Moreton Bay Regional Council, Resources Development Australia, Moreton Bay Regional Industry and Tourism and Quest News.
MBRIT have indicated that this coming year they will have a driving role in the Carnivale event. If you have any thoughts on how a greater involvement by the Chamber might be of benefit please let me or James Niven know.

In closing it is my hope that the coming and going of the Federal Election will see you all on the receiving end of some excellent growth in your respective businesses. Enjoy..  Ron

Vice President

Kellie Pamic

Thanks to the Women & Business committee and Stuart Jaeschke for their work on this month's Women & Business Lunch. By all accounts, everyone got involved and the discussion hopefully allowed everyone to take away some ideas on how they can use the ‘numbers’ in their business to their advantage. We are looking for members who have energy and ideas to develop the impact and reach of our chamber so we can better support and represent our members. If you have a burning idea or suggestion please come find me at breakfast and have a chat or drop me an email.   Kellie

Last month was our AGM.  We welcomed 2 new members and 2 guests and in total, we had 50 registered members at the meeting - an excellent rollout for the AGM. The take a card and contact a member program has been producing some great results, and the business card draws were won by Wendy Belham, Allied Immigration Services and Ross Pickering from Samford Garage (bring a guest).

The current Executive Committee was returned unopposed:

  • President Ron crump
  • Vice President: Kellie Pamic
  • Secretary: Leonard Whittaker
  • Treasurer: Craig Cooper
  • Executive Members: Joanne Harding-Smith, Alisa Cork, James Niven.
Craig Cooper delivered the treasurer’s report which had been audited by Mark Reardon - Auditor’s Validation:
  • Moved: C Cooper
  • Seconded: B Kimball
  • Vote: Passed
The New Constitution including Associate Member and Life Members was voted on:
  • Moved: Kellie Pamic
  • Seconded: Leonard Whittaker
  • Vote: Passed.
Brian Battersby was nominated as Life member:
  • Moved: Ron Crump
  • Seconded: Max Matthews
  • Vote: Passed.

Short Histories of the Chamber were delivered by Past Presidents:

  • Max Matthews
  • Joanne Harding-Smith
  • Ron Crump.

At this point in time we would like to give a special thanks to Kelly Whilock for all of her support over the last 12 months. Kelly has difficulties getting to events, yet has been a willing helper to a number of Executive Members and committees. The success of The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce lies not in the fees, it lies in engaged members. For this very reason, I ask you to participate in any small way and renew your registration as soon as possible.   Leonard

Reminder:  Membership renewals are overdue

So many events!
The second half of 2016 is shaping up to be even more jam packed than the first. We have a range of events coming up that will suit all members and hopefully a time and location that works also. This July, we announce the inaugural Business Showcase event on Thursday 14th July hosted by Curves Mitchelton. This is an opportunity to hear from members Chris and Janelle Hansen and benefit from their business story. This is all about networking and learning from other members - lets face it we all have something to share and something to learn. Come along to this free event - places are limited, so please email your rsvp to Chris by 12 July.  Alisa

Today is the last chance for comment on the disbursement of profits from the upcoming Big Breakfast event on Wednesday 14 September at the Arana Leagues Club.
The committee is seeking your feedback about the disbursement of profits to be raised from our major annual fundraising event and last week, all members received an email requesting feedback on the proposed direction of surplus profits to the following nominated local community not-for-profit organisations:-  Hills PCYC; Picabeen Community Association; and NW Youth Accommodation Service.  Please forward any comments you might like to make to the Chamber’s Big Breakfast Committee Chairperson, Bruce Kimball: bruce.kimball@bigpond.com   Bruce
