Dear Friends, Supporters, and Readers
Welcome to our newsletter: We would like to share some of our latest news and, most importantly, upcoming events.
Cooperation is the key word emerging throughout our work. Alone we can’t achieve the ambitious goals set for the GCCA+ initiative. And partnership is a big part of that ambition.
That’s what we have found at European Development Days (EDD). By bringing together development professionals from all around the world to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences, the EDD is a good platform to interact and collaborate with others on sustainable development issues such as climate change.
At last year’s EDD, the GCCA+ featured among the participating initiatives and we organised a brainstorming session, an interactive stand displaying one of our projects as well as a climate memory game — all very well received by visitors.
We’re back again at the EDD this year for a 'Lab Debate' session about the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in supporting the climate change and sustainable development agenda. We are very proud to be teaming up with DEVCO’s facilities for environment and climate change programmes at a stand this year, too. Besides the GCCA+, the Biodiversity for Life (B4Life), the EU Redd Facility, the Switch to Green, and the Greening EU Cooperation facilities will also be there.
All five EU initiatives and their dedicated facilities will demonstrate how they contribute to global progress by supporting the '5Ps' of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the proposal on the new European Consensus on Development. This event is crowded and fast-paced, so rather than asking you to read long documents, we are going to present our work through an interactive Search&Find game.
If you play the game, you can pick up a small gift at the end.
In the spirit of collaboration and efficiency, we also presented GCCA+ work on the sidelines of the DG DEVCO and DG NEAR Cooperation Days that were organised in Brussels on 20 March. The GCCA+ and the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiatives with the Greening EU Cooperation facility jointly hosted a stand. It was an opportunity for meeting partners from EU delegations and sharing a recently published GCCA+ Orientation Package — and present the GCCA+ Climate Resilient development index.
Staying close to our agenda, the GCCA+ was also present at the DG DEVCO Infopoint Session on World Wetlands Day 2017, on 02 February. At that event, we described some of the ways in which the EU applies nature-based solutions in support of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR).
On behalf of the GCCA+ team, I thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at the EDD 2017!
