Give The World the Best Version of Yourself
By Greg Sanders

We all have good days and bad days. Some days you are firing on all cylinders.  You make good choices, you treat people right, and it seems like nothing could go wrong. However, other days it seems you can do nothing right and you do things you yourself would describe as unintelligent. I am simply saying there are different versions of ourselves that show up on certain days.

As a husband, father, pastor, and friend I desire to give the best version of myself to those who I love and are entrusted to me. I want to give my best for the calling on my life and the opportunities that come my way. Therefore, the question becomes, “How can I be the best version of myself?”

Philippians 3:12 says it like this: I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Paul is saying that the best way to offer real life to those in our lives is to live our lives pressing forward for the things of God. It is in the process of reaching for all that God has for you that you become the most beneficial for those in contact with you. Becoming the best version of yourself does not occur as you focus on many things. Insead, becoming your best occurs as you focus on one thing: knowing and following Jesus today. Giving your best is not determined by things you have achieved.  It is determined by the quality of the things you are striving for today. When you give your best to God, you become your best for others.

Today’s Challenge: This world needs the best version of you. It needs the version of you that is empowered by the Spirit of God and renewed by His grace. Focus on knowing Him today.  As you do, you will become the best version of yourself and the person God ordained you to be.
