It goes without saying 2020 has been and continues to be a challenging and unprecedented time for all, and in particular, Lebanon.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all of our family and friends in Lebanon today and always. Waking up to news of the devastation in Beirut completely shattered us. The devastation of this blast comes on top of the existing economic crisis, with the value of the country’s currency spiralling out of control, and the social and political crisis resulting in a large portion of the population now moving into poverty, and this is all on top of accommodating an approximate 1.5 million refugees.
We are watching as our fellow Lebanese have been brought down to their knees, a loss of hope with no where to turn. The bittersweet history and beauty of our beloved Beirut destroyed once again.
We have been in close contact with our Lebanese film industry family and friends to ensure they are safe, offering our words of comfort and support during this difficult time.
Over the past few months, we have been working quietly behind the scenes to innovate ways we can continue to support the film industry in both Australia and Lebanon, and in particular keeping the lights on for Lebanese arts and culture.
Thank you to our ongoing sponsors and partners who have stood by us during his difficult time, some of which have had their business impacted. We are committed to growing the Lebanese Film Festival Australia and to continue to bring Lebanese stories to our screens. We will be releasing details over ways you can support and continue to enjoy Lebanese Cinema.
Please also join us in keeping Lebanon in your thoughts and prayers.
