Dear Readers, Mentors, Sponsors and Supporters of our Children's Home in Myanmar,
In my last newsletter some months ago I reported the school opening in Myanmar in June 2021. Unfortunately they closed again just three weeks later, due to the rapid increase of the coronavirus.
A few weeks ago I received confirmation that schools have opened again since 1st November 2021. We hope now that the opening will remain: next to accommodation, victualling and administration, school is most important for the future of the children.
The political situation in the country is still catastrophic: nobody knows how long it is going to continue. More than 1,300 people have been killed since 1st February. I am afraid it will continue until the Military, with its 350,000 soldiers, is in full control of the country and the population gives in by reasons of fear. Only then there will be some easing for the people. This is something that has been experienced with previous, similar coups.
Nevertheless, at least we are satisfied that our children have no further disadvantages apart from the missed school classes up to now. We look after them comprehensively at their premises and ensure continuity. We are certain, our children are happy and grateful and they feel good in the community of the institution.

For the time being, there are 60 girls and 65 boys staying at the orphanage.
Finally, we would like to thank you for your continued support and will keep you informed about developments in the children's home and in the country.
We have been in Myanmar for the last 43 years and whilst most of the foreign firms and their employees have meanwhile left, we assure you that our company will remain. In particular we will not abandon our children and the employees.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Kind Regards
Gerhard Ruether
PS
On the basis of the names and numbers on the attached photos you will recognise your relative godchild.
