Chapter News/Updates

Happy New Year!
The new year brings some new planning reminders. The chapter's nominating committee should be confirming candidates for the proposed slate of officers for the 2020.2021 chapter year (July 1 - June 30).  Per the bylaws, Article V:  Nominations and Elections, "The Nominating Committee shall announce its nominations for the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and members of the Board or Directors to the membership not less than forty-five (45) days prior to the annual meeting."  FSP chapters' annual meetings are in May or June, so the nominating committee will want to have their work completed in time for the notifications to go out in  March or April.

Incorporate This New Member Benefit into Chapter
Recruiting and Retention Strategies

NEW - FSP has entered into a relationship that will provide all members free access for a full year to JourneyGuide retirement planning software, valued at more than $1,000. This arrangement is made in keeping with our efforts to provide valuable benefits to members—which in turn serve as great retention and recruiting tools for chapter leadership.  JourneyGuide can help advisors grow their practice and increase revenue by expanding their advice from wealth management to retirement planning. With JourneyGuide’s proprietary software, advisors can extend their client relationships up to an additional 30 years, converting savings into lifelong income.

This benefit is available to existing members so it can be part of a very strong retention message. It can also be an effective recruiting tool, as member prospects can readily see that the value of this benefit alone far exceeds the cost of joining FSP.  You can find more information about JourneyGuide here.

Qualifying for Retired Membership Just Got Easier
The national board or directors recently redefined the parameters for qualifying for retired membership. Under the new criteria, retired membership status may be conferred upon an individual who otherwise qualifies for membership (that is, he or she holds one of FSP's approved credentials), if:
  • he / she considers him / herself retired and is age 65 or older, or
  • his / her age and years of membership add up to 80 or greater.
The new rules are designed to eliminate barriers to joining FSP by providing interested professionals who have retired from active employment the opportunity to access the education and networking benefits of belonging, even if they haven't been a member for 15 years---which was part of the prior requirement.

The board's decision to open up retired membership was made in response to inquiries from local FSP leaders who were seeking enhanced flexibility to grow and strengthen their chapters.

Professional Development

NEW Case Study Program Available Now
As outlined previously, FSP National is providing chapters with case study programs to support your local professional development efforts. These case studies are available at no cost to chapters. The case studies give you a vehicle to offer members a valuable educational opportunity, as well as demonstrate the value of membership to prospective members you invite to attend your event. A new case study is available now which addresses planning issues for business owners. This new case study, along with other available case studies, can be accessed here on the Chapter Leader website. If you have any questions, contact Patti McFadden or Shannen Griffin.
