Board Meeting Summary
Public Hearing Lee Montessori PCS, a Tier 1 school, seeks to educate more students and open another school in either Wards 7 or 8. There high demand Montessori program has roughly 750 students on its waiting list. The Board will vote on the request on Dec 17.

As part of our oversight role, the Board is required to review each DC public charter schools’ performance at least once every five years. This review includes an evaluation of a school’s academic, legal, and fiscal performance.
Board delayed the vote on Democracy Prep PCS's 5-year charter continuance following a tie vote. The Board will revisit the issue next month after additional consideration. Read the review here.
Given the turnaround efforts already underway at Harmony DC PCS, the dramatic academic improvement seen in the past year, and the fact that the school is in its fifth year of operation, the DC PCSB Board voted to continue Harmony DC PCS’s charter with conditions. Read the report here.
Expanding Quality School Options to Military Families
The Board unanimously approved the LEARN Network's proposal to open LEARN DC in 2020-21 on the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB). The K-8 college preparatory program will enroll a student population that is 50% military families stationed at JBAB and 50% DC families living all over the District. Click here to read more.

Approved Charter Amendments
A public charter school's board can request to change the schools charter with DC PCSB. Before the vote, the ANC where the school resides receives notification of the change, a public hearing, and an opportunity for the public to comment is completed prior to the final vote.
The Board approved the following changes:
Academy of Hope PCS adopted the adult education Performance Management Framework (PMF) as its charter goals. Read more.
IDEA PCS adopted the PMF as its charter goals and will attach its high school graduation requirements to its charter agreement in adherence to DC PCSB’s High School Graduation Requirements Approval Policy. Read more.
Shining Stars PCS changed its early childhood math assessment to NWEA MAP. Read more.
High School Graduation Requirements
To ensure a public charter high school is held accountable to the graduation requirements approved in its application, and that its graduation requirements meet the standard above, DC PCSB includes those graduation requirements in the school’s charter agreement.
