Another scam has come to our attention as some people are being informed via text that there is incorrect or missing information on their Census form, and that they could face a £1000 fine. A member reported today receiving such a message.
If you receive such a text it WILL be a scam as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which is responsible for the 2021 Census have stated that if there are genuine and legitimate concerns a person has not filled out their Census, a field officer may knock on the door of a person’s home or the ONS may send census branded reminder letters by post to those who have not completed their census. You will never be issued with a fine by text message, phone call or email.
The website on the message our member received today was obviously fake as all government related websites have ‘.gov.uk’ in the web address and the one for the 2021 census is https://census.gov.uk/ which was not the one in the text.
The following message has been received from Avon and Somerset Police today:
