Active Amazon Scammers, Cold Callers plus Contacting the Police

Ongoing Amazon Scam Calls
We have been advised this morning that unfortunately a Sedgemoor member has fallen foul to this scam. A call was received appearing to be from Amazon claiming that a payment request had been made on their account from a company in London and were they aware of any such transaction? Clearly not aware, the caller stated they must have been hacked and went through a lengthy procedure at the end of which the member checked their online bank account to find a substantial amount of money had been removed.
Please NEVER give out any personal details to anyone claiming to be from Amazon or any other company that calls you out of the blue. Terminate the call and call back on a number you trust and preferably from a different phone, if this is not possible then wait at least 5 minutes for the line to disconnect.

Amazon’s name is being used in various scam attempts just now so take great care.

Ongoing Cold Callers
We have received reports from several villages that there are cold callers about. Please remember you do not have to answer the door. If you live alone it can be quite frightening when it’s dark to be confronted by a mask-wearing stranger. Phone 101 and let the police know these unwanted callers are around.

National Volunteer Day 5th December

Neighbourhood Watch plays such an important part in our communities and we appreciate all your efforts in keeping your neighbours safe and informed, reducing both the level and the fear of crime. The information that you share with us, and we share with you, is key to building a strong relationship between neighbourhoods and the police.
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support, so here are just some of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams who had gathered to show their appreciation.

We are no longer recommending you try to contact our PCSOs direct as they are often off-duty (they can’t work all the time!). Please use the 101 service and the handler will pass your message on as appropriate. Lora Bray is no longer on our beat having been promoted to PCSO supervisor. Kim Wrixon is now with the Burnham team. PCSO Ben Simpkin remains and our PC is Claire Allan.
