Dear <<First Name>>
National campaign launched to prevent romance fraud

As one victim said: “When Romance turns to Finance – Beware!”

Across Avon and Somerset, almost 200 reported incidents were recorded between August 2019 and August 2020, with reported financial losses totalling approximately £2.4million.  Across the UK during the same period, losses totalled £66,335,239 – an average loss per person of just over £10,000.

Police forces across the country are working together with partners to tackle romance fraud, with a combination of awareness raising and enforcement activity, co-ordinated by the City of London Police and Action Fraud.
Fraud cases can be reported to Action Fraud online; https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime

Anyone who finds themselves in immediate danger should call 999 as per any emergency.
Victims of fraud looking for help can find more information on Victim Support’s website; https://www.victimsupport.org.uk/crime-info/types-crime/fraud
