Summer is Upon Us!

Welcome back to Katie's Kronicle!

UPDATE ON MARIN REAL ESTATE: The median home price in Marin County for the 1st quarter of 2018 hit $1,280,000, an 8 percent increase from 2017.  As you know, a few big sales can skew that number either up or down.  The average days on market has increased to 54; it is taking longer to sell homes, especially in the over $3 million range.  I'm noticing some very high-end homes in Kentfield and Tiburon coming back on the market at prices that are 15 to 20 percent over the previous year's sale price.  It will be interesting to see if those properties close escrow.  Fairfax is the new darling of Marin. Homes are flying off the market in that town!

Is Your Roof Fire Safe?
Let's face it. Most of us in Marin County live in or near a wildfire zone. Fortunately, there are many things that homewners can do to minimize the risks to their homes from fire damage. The roof is the most vulnerable part of a home in the event of a fire.  There is plenty of information about fire safety on their website, including a detailed Roof Safety Fact Sheet.
Grab and Go Checklist
If you ever had to evacuate your home quickly, what would you need to grab? READY MARIN, Marin County's source for emergency preparedness, offers invaluable tips on their website about how to prepare in advance for unexpected emergencies. Click HERE to for a printable, downloadable checklist of items to have on hand in the event of an evacuation.
Emergency Water Supply
Every household should have an emergency water supply for everyone in their home. Three gallons per person should be enough to cover 3 days.  Keep an extra gallon or two for your pets too.  It’s ok to store water in plastic soda bottles as long as you sterilized them with a little household bleach (no more than 8 drops per gallon should do it).  It's important to store them in a cool, dark place. Be sure to label each one with the date, and replace every 6 months.  You will be glad you did this!

Note: The Earthquake Supply Center in San Rafael has larger water storage bins that keep water safe for drinking for up to 5 years. Also, Goodman Building Supply in Mill Valley has a good selection of emergency supplies.
