Welcome back to Katie's Chronicle

NOVEMBER 2018

Welcome back to Katie’s Chronicle. I have given my newsletter a fresh new look and hope you like it. Always good to keep current. Look for even more changes in the next issue. Check out my website for all sorts of great tips, resources and real estate information. I wish you joyous time with your friends and families this holiday season. I’m only a phone call away if you need a trusted realtor or resource for anything home-related.

MARKET NEWS:
As we wind down 2018, I can report that it has been an “interesting” year in the real estate market.  We started off 2018 with low inventory much as we did in 2017.  We are ending 2018 with unusually high inventory,  signaling buyers are a bit more cautious to write offers right now. Buyer caution is not surprising as rates continue to rise (slowly), the stock market is bouncing around and the weather is wearing on everyone’s nerves. I believe we will see more inventory hit the market EARLY in 2018 as sellers take advantage of buyers who are waiting to buy and low competition. Some stagers are telling me they are fully booked in January and February 2019. The early bird does get the worm when it comes to selling early in the season. Buyers, you may have some great opportunities to buy between now and December 31, 2018. Contact me and I can fill you in with more market details.

Wine Away

HOLIDAY MISHAPS AND WHAT TO DO

Your three year old nephew has just hit a glass and spilled the red wine on your beautiful white table cloth. Not to panic! I have had excellent luck with Wine Away.

Read the directions carefully and try in an inconspicuous spot first. It's citrus-based and also good on carpet. As always, best to just take the cloth to the dry cleaner ASAP.

GET YOUR HOME EARTHQUAKE SAFE

An APP for your phone about earthquakes? Yes!
> Download TEMBLOR.NET

I recently attended a workshop about earthquakes presented by Ross Stein, PH.D. Fascinating stuff. We are poised to have a major quake in the future, it’s not a matter of if but when. He and his team have developed this app and a website, TEMBLOR.NET, to provide a lot of free information to homeowners. You can learn where your house sits in relation to the major fault lines. There is also a link to Temblor’s approved list of retrofit contractors and engineers. For a reasonable fee (under $500.00) you can have your home inspected by a licensed contractor who will provide you with recommendations for seismic upgrades to withstand a major quake. Some fixes are simple and inexpensive. Check this one out!

Wire Transfer

WIRE TRANSFER INTERCEPTIONS

If you've purchased a home lately—or plan to do so—you should know from your mortgage broker or title officer that wire fraud is a real problem.

Thieves have figured out ways to highjack wire transfers from banks and brokerage firms. It's now required that you call ahead to alert the title company of the incoming wire so they can be looking for it. Follow their advice.
Identity Theft

IDENTITY THEFT PROTECTION TIPS

As we enter the holiday season and you're using your credit cards often, it might be a good idea to check your credit report for incidents of fraud and identity theft. Dashlane, a password management site, reported that 2.6 billion accounts were breached last year.

You are allowed a free copy of your credit report once a year. Request it at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling toll-free 1-877-322-8228

Staples

STAPLES

Staples is one of my favorite stores. They offer many services including UPS shipping at most of their locations. No lines! If you are member of their REWARDS program, they will send you discount coupons for future purchases. Recycle your ink cartridges here and you will get rewards credit—I buy all my ink cartridges with my rewards coupons. They even have a machine that brought my cell phone back to life when I dropped it in the sink!

HOME DEPOT

Home Depot’s PLANTS EXPRESS program allows you to place a special order and have the plants delivered to your home – note: delivery can be expensive so make sure to order enough to waive the delivery fee. I find their sales people knowledgeable and helpful. Switch out your old light bulbs for LEDs. Incandescent bulbs will be a thing of the past. Home Depot also offers a 24 month no interest credit card – I use it for large purchases like a new hot water heater or building supplies.
