Deagon Ward E-News

September 2019

September is such a busy month in our local community and the last few weeks have seen so many amazing local events!

We held our first ever Sandgate Youth Festival on Saturday 7 September and with amazing local performers, massive crowds and such great feedback we have committed to making this an annual local event supporting and promoting young and emerging artists in our local community. I teamed up with local business Beat Connection DJ & Live music to host the Sandgate Youth Festival and we would like to thank our generous local sponsors, Anika Wells MP, Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Kuhn Corp Print & Packaging, GyroStream and Dana Frier Design.

I have also been out and about at sporting presentations, art nights, community walks, museum launches, mobile offices and at local school events. We have some great events coming up over the next few weeks and I hope to see you at some of them. There are more details below.

The high cost of water is something our local sporting clubs tell me about all the time. Our volunteer run sporting clubs make our community the vibrant place it is. That's why I'm excited to announce Council will be offering a $5000 rebate to our sporting clubs to help with this water cost this financial year.

Keep an eye out on my Facebook page to keep up to date with local news and events.

If you are part of a local community group and want me to feature an upcoming event in my e-news please contact my office to arrange this.

Cheers

Jared Cassidy

Sandgate Youth Festival

Our first ever Sandgate Youth Festival was an amazing success. I am really proud to have worked with Brendon from Beat Connection - DJ and Live Music to present this brand new event.

Congratulations to the winners TEN12 and our seven other acts on the night - Jetty Street, Friday Marmalade, Pier Pressure, Anouk Brown, Simian SickMabel McCormack and Jacob Byrne. You made this a special night!

Without our sponsors Kuhn Corp Print & PackagingStirling Hinchliffe MPAnika Wells MPGYROstream and Dana Frier Designs our new festival wouldn't be possibe.

Can't wait to do this all again next year!

Local Sporting Clubs Grants Information Evening

I joined my Northside state government colleagues Leanne Linard MPStirling Hinchliffe MP and Bart Mellish MP- Member for Aspley in Zillmere for a special grants information evening with our local sporting clubs.

After hearing from our sporting clubs over the last few years that their water bills are taking a big toll on club finances, it was great to share the good news that these clubs will now be eligible for a one off $5000 water subsidy to help with these costs!

QCYC Open Day and Sailing Season Launch

It was great to join the crew at Queensland Cruising Yacht Club at their open day and launch of the sailing season recently.

I was proud to officially host the race briefing for the Brisbane to Gladstone Race this year in the Sandgate Town Hall and am pleased that we will make this an annual feature of the race!

Sandgate Hawks Netball Club Presentation Night

I joined the Sandgate Hawks Netball Club to present a brand new 5 year recognition of club participation award this recently.

Recognising ongoing participation is very important to the Hawks and part of the reason for their spectacular growth over the past few years!

Great to see so many girls sticking with their club for five years and plenty more with ten years at the club too!

RU OK Run - Bramble Bay Deadly Runners

I recently joined the Bramble Bay Deadly Runners for a special RU OK run. The rate of suicide amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians is double the National average.

The conversation we had was such an important one - thanks to the organisers for a great morning!

If you want to get involved with the Deadly Runners, they meet at 5.30am on Tuesdays, 5.30pm on Thursdays and 4.00pm on Sundays. Check it out!
