Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ
As you will all be aware, Clergy and laity responsible for selecting the next Bishop of Christchurch met this weekend.
I am pleased to announce that a preferred candidate has been selected as nominee for the role of Bishop and their name will now go forward to General Synod/ Te Hīnota Whānui (GSTHW).
We can’t yet tell you who the candidates were and who has been selected, as the process is ongoing. But once the nominee has been approved by GSTHW, the announcement will be made loud and clear.
We ask respectfully that members of the Diocese don’t ask the members of the Electoral College about what happened, nor talk to the media about the candidates at this stage. Until we have a Bishop Elect, it’s important to let the process take its course.
The confirmed result is expected to be available in early September. This will be announced, along with the details of the induction service, as soon as practically possible.
I wish to thank the members of the Electoral College for their faithfulness and discernment. I look forward to announcing the Bishop Elect soon.
Blessings to all
Archbishop Sir David Moxon, Commissary for the Electoral College
