Equity action planning
On the evening of Nov. 9, a mix of school staff, administrators and school board members spent an evening with Dr. Luvelle Brown, current superintendent of Ithaca City School District and founder of Love2Achieve, LLC. Dr. Brown led the group through protocols for equity action planning. The framework can be applied at the board level, the school level, and the classroom level, empowering board members, administrators, and teachers to reflect upon practices and procedures with an eye towards equity for all.
Dr. Brown remained in the North Country to continue guiding Heuvelton instructional staff through his Cultivating Equity & Excellence Program on the Nov. 10 staff development day. Both events are part of ongoing equity work to support all students.
Michael Davis appointed to board seat
In other board news, at its Wednesday, Nov. 16, meeting, the Heuvelton Board of Education appointed retired board member Michael Davis to fill a vacant board seat and serve until the May 2023 election.
Davis served on the Heuvelton Board of Education for 15 years, from 2004-2019, during which time he was board president for three years. He also currently sits on the St. Lawrence BOCES Board of Education. Our thanks to Mr. Davis for his willingness to serve the district once again!

Elementary students demonstrate creativity
|
|
Earlier this month, Heuvelton elementary students got creative for a good cause to create a "Protect the Pack" bulletin board. Students were really excited to participate in this group activity, and from the classic purple and yellow Heuvelton design, to a four bulldog Andy Warhol-inspired piece, we have some great bulldogs to display and show that bullying won't be tolerated in our school community!

Affordable Connectivity Program available
|
|
Access to reliable, high-speed internet can be an important tool in helping students complete schoolwork.
As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was created to help bridge the connectivity gap for students and families without reliable access to the internet.
The ACP provides eligible households up to $30/month toward their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet.
Parents, you may be pre-qualified to participate. All households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced price school meals under the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program, within the last 12 months, or children who attend schools participating in the Community Eligibility Provision, are eligible for ACP benefits.
This benefit is not considered income for purposes of determining eligibility for free and reduced-price school meals. Families can check their eligibility, sign up, and find fully covered plans at GetInternet.gov or by calling 877-384-2575.
