‘The dance of liberty and lockdown’
I found that phrase in some papers I had to read for a meeting and thought how appropriate it is to our current situation. Lock down may seem tedious and be dragging but I feel that the weeks are certainly flying by. Next week it will be Advent and so we will be galloping towards Christmas with all the tension the current situation holds for that festive season.
I feel very fortunate that I have been able to use gardening as an ‘exercise’ activity this year, and even now that it’s getting darker and colder I’m trying to do some digging. And even in this late autumn season I am amazed that I have chrysanths flowering in stunningly vibrant colours. There is always something to learn from creation. As I said last week it seems to be important that we should celebrate the positives.
So back to the dance…..we are all hoping that we will be released from lock down in early December. It will certainly be a balancing act. One of my late father’s responses to almost every request when we were demanding children was the phrase- ‘We’ll see’. Nothing was ever certain! So we hope that the positive hope of a vaccine will mean that we can move forward but in the meantime and in light of all the upheaval across the water recently I remember some words of the 3rd President of the USA
“The boisterous sea of liberty is never without a wave” (Thomas Jefferson)

Calling all cooks and chefs!
We thought it would be a good idea to put together a recipe book to sell in the spring to raise funds and demonstrating the wonderful culinary talent of our parishioners. Perhaps a Mother’s Day or Easter gift? I you have any favourite recipes please send us one. This could be a cake, pie, dessert, soup, curry, casserole anything at all! If it has a special meaning to you and you don’t mind sharing that then please write that down too.
We will start collecting in the New Year but if you have any delicious Christmas recipes then please send them in now. We look forward to reading them. Vanessa Wynn

Thank you to all who continue to support the Food Bank. There is even greater demand for assistance in the current crisis. Donations can now be left in Church.
- The food bank says it is well stocked with beans, pasta and milk, but is still looking for other tinned and packet food donations.
“We’re Good To Go” is the official UK mark to signal that we have follow Government COVID-19 guidelines and has a process in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing. We have successfully applied for the ‘Good to Go’ Industry standard and this has been granted.
Our journey to Bethlehem is progressing well; we are now over halfway, confident that by the weekend we will have crossed the border into Turkey, heading towards Istanbul.
I am confident that we will achieve our aim to be at the Stable for Christmas Day.
The charity we have chosen to support for this challenge is the ‘Christmas Day Together’ scheme, as well as St. Stephen’s Church. This will depend on the amount of money raised.
Due to Covid 19, ‘Christmas Day Together’ are unable to continue sharing hospitality to those who will be on their own on Christmas Day this year, so they are planning to distribute a hamper to each of the 80 people they usually cook for.
They are aware that we would like to help them with a donation and have therefore asked us if we would sponsor 80 boxes of Mince Pies.
If possible, we would love to be able to give them 80 packets of Shortbread as well, but this will obviously depend on our final figure.
We are not due to complete our walk until Christmas Eve, but if you would like to make a donation to this, we do need to let the organisers have the donation in plenty of time, so that they can start making up the hampers.
If you do feel you would like to offer a donation, however small, I have agreed to collect the money, which can be paid to me by Banker’s order, cheque, or cash pushed through the letterbox.
It will then be passed to the correct channels.
Please let me know if you need any details.
Thank you so much to those who feel they are able to support.
