Parish News - Extra - 6th February 2021
This week we thought we'd take you on a tour of All Saints Church's stained glass windows. This video has been on our viz box in church for about three years but many people haven't seen it. We hope you enjoy it!
Weekly Online Services

We are now offering two online worship services each week which you can access by going to our website.
Every Sunday at 10am there will be a longer pre recorded service (about half hour) which is a bit more like our traditional Sunday service.
Every Wednesday at 10am there will be the shorter video with worship by John and his guitar (which will also be sent out via the Parish news each week to our whole Parish for those who haven't seen it.)
These two services are being added to our website at the times that we used to hold our weekly services in church. We hope that you will enjoy both of these regular online videos and that it provides you with the spiritual refreshment you need until we can meet again for worship together!

Our next service is Sunday 7th February 10am. We look forward to welcoming you!

You can access the services by clicking on this link:
This lent study is open to everyone in our Parish of Alrewas, Fradley and Wychnor. Please contact Rev'd Ashley to register your interest!

All Saints Church is heavily dependent on voluntary donations and income from events in order to fulfil its ministry to the local and wider communities. The continuing pandemic is having a material impact on our income. If you feel able, and would like to support us at this time, donations can be made as detailed below. It is with much sadness that St Stephen’s has taken the difficult decision to suspend Public Worship in the church building. We have grown increasingly concerned about the rise in Corona virus cases both locally and across the country and wish to encourage the government message in lockdown.
St Stephen’s Church remains open 10am-3pm daily for private prayer but we urge you to observe the hygiene rules and keeping social distancing whilst there.
The Government Guidelines specify the following where a church is open for Individual Prayer:  ‘A person or single household entering the bulding to pray on their own’.
St Stephen’s now has the official NHS COVID19 App for Track & Trace.
Please log in when in the building if you have the app downloaded on your phone.
This week has been dominated by the sad news of the death with the virus of Captain Sir Tom Moore on Tuesday. He has been an inspiration in the Covid pandemic, raising over £32 million for the NHS as it fought to care for so many in the battle against the virus. He gave a nation hope and responded, even at his age, and showed us what his generation stood for. It is a generation to whom we owe a great deal.
His strap line ‘tomorrow will be a good day’ inspired hope for a nation and seemed to unite us all in dealing with the crisis. Captain Tom was indeed the very best of us.
And if you some more inspiration (as well as some light relief!) here’s another offering from the Marsh family who produced an adaptation of a song from Les Miserables reflecting their frustration with the first lockdown. Now this talented family have released another song to the music of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah    It’s called ”Have the new jab”.
I do hope you get your ‘jab’ soon! Hallelujah!

The Diary
Sunday 7th February 10.30am Online Worship: Holy Communion (BCP – Traditional)
(I have been aware that in nearly a year of online worship we have never recorded a traditional Communion service. I hope this will redress the balance!
A Prayer for 2nd Sunday before Lent
Almighty God,
you have created the heavens and the earth
and made us in your own image:
teach us to discern your hand in all your works
and your likeness in all your children;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who with you and the Holy Spirit reigns supreme over all things,
now and for ever.
Readings:        Proverbs 8 1, 22-31     Colossians 1. 15-20     John 1. 1-14
Please do contact us if you have any prayer requests.  Morning Prayer (said privately by the clergy) and Sunday Services all include prayers, for the world, for the church, for the community and for individuals. If you would like us to pray for anyone please get in touch.
We invite you to pray for our nation
In response to reaching the terrible milestone of 100,000 deaths from COVID-19, the Archbishops invite all to call on God in Prayer. Starting on 1 February we invite you to set aside time every evening to pray, particularly at 6pm each day. More than ever, this is a time when we need to love each other. Prayer is an expression of love.

How can you get involved?

Use our free resources to pray for our nation every day at 6pm.

                                                   Calling all cooks and chefs!
We thought it would be a good idea to put together a recipe book, as a fundraiser, but also to demonstrate the wonderful culinary talent of our congregation and community.  If you have any favourite recipes please send them in. This could be a cake, pie, dessert, soup, curry, casserole anything at all!
If the recipe has a special meaning to you and you don’t mind sharing that then please write that down too. We will start collecting now for launch later in the year.

Candlemas…..and yes, the snowdrops did appear! Here is an amzing clump alongside the path to the main door at st Stephen’s.
(You may have seen, both in the Online Service for Candlemas and last week’s Bulletin, a reference to snowdrops traditionally flowering at Candlemas)

………………….and giving us hope that spring is on its way!
