Public Lecture at Goldsmiths

As announced in the last newsletter, I've recently joined Goldsmiths, University of London as a Lecturer in Creative Computing, teaching on their Computational Arts programmes.

I'm very honoured that Goldsmiths have invited me to give the first of this year's public Whitehead Lectures in Cognition, Computation and Culture. These are a series of public lectures run jointly by Goldsmiths' departments of Computing and Psychology.

The title of the talk is: Morphogenetic Creations: A tale of complexity, emergence and human-computer collaboration, and will take place at 4pm on Wednesday 10th October in room 137a of the Richard Hoggart Building.

Intersezioni Digitali

Intersezioni Digitali is an international exhibition of interactive digital and bio-algorithmic art taking place in a large deconsecrated church that has been converted into a contemporary art gallery in San Martino di Lupari, Italy. I'll be showing Cellular Forms video work, as well as using a large format 3D printer to conduct an experiment in fabricating Vase Form sculptures live in the exhibition space.

The exhibition is running in the
Chiesa Storica di San Martino di Lupari from 14th October to 28th October.

Chance and Control Conference at the V&A

To accompany the Chance and Control: Art in the Age of Computers exhibition currently running at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the V&A are holding a one day conference on Friday 26th October. The theme is digital and algorithmic art since the 1960s, with a particular focus on the legacy of the 1968 Cybernetic Serendipity exhibition at the ICA.

Curated by Douglas Dodds, the head of digital collections at the V&A, the conference will have presentations by artists such as Aaron Marcus and Frieder Nake, as well as Jasia Reichardt, the curator of the original Cybernetic Serendipty exhibition. I will be giving a presentation in the afternoon session about how chance and control feature in my work.
