1 March 2017

Tena koutou katoa, greetings.

Mrs Powell and I are currently in Dunedin at a 2 day workshop based on our ALL programme (the Accelerating Learning in Literacy).  This of course has been a significant focus for us in our school over 2016 and one of which we would like to continue to emphasise in 2017.  Based on the success of a number of our initiatives (Home challenges, Waitaki Writes, Waitaki Bob etc) we have been asked to present to the group of about 80 teachers from across Otago and Southland on Wednesday afternoon.  It has been a neat exercise putting our presentation together and we certainly have lots to celebrate.  I'm sure that those in the room will be suitably impressed by the commitment of our teachers, students and parents, to our writing programme.

Building on what we started last year, we have decided to commit to Seesaw - the online portfolio programme.  If you haven't already - you can expect information over the next week or so in regards to connecting to your child's online portfolio. This is a wonderful tool and we encourage you to regularly view the work of your child. We also encourage you to comment on the work that they have posted.  Remember that you only see the work of your child or the activities that they have been involved in.  All work posted, and comments made, are only put online after being approved by your child's teacher.  If you wish for grandparents, or other family members to be connected to this, then please email your child's teacher with the email address of the person who you approve of having this contact.

Well done to our Boys' cricket team who performed well against the Oamaru Intermediate team on Monday.  The fact that we compete strongly against a team from a school of nearly 300 Yr 7 & 8s, is something that we can be proud of.  Good luck to our Yr 5 & 6 students who are playing in the Festival of Cricket tournament tomorrow, and to our swimmers who have qualified for the Upper Waitaki Sports at our school on Monday.  You are welcome to join both of these events to support the children in action.

Enjoy the rest of your week

Well done to Connor Pritchard who has been named in the North Otago Under 15 Basketball Team.
