Waitaki Valley School

1 February 2017

Tena koutou katoa, greetings.

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful way that all the children arrived at school organised and refreshed for the start of another year! Not only do they all look so refreshed - but many of them look like they have grown so much taller too!

A big welcome to ALL of our new students and their families to Waitaki Valley.  After farewelling 14 students at the end of last year, we are starting with the same roll as we finished with! 111 students are currently at our school.

As the new year starts there are new opportunities that arise.  Please take note of the information below re Speech lessons, Cricket for Yr 5-8s and Touch.  Notes for touch will go home with those who are interested today and I ask for a prompt return of these please.

Also going home today (for a return by Friday) is a note to all families about our 'GREAT' day out!  This will be a day in Otematata where we will walk, picnic and swim.  This will be a GREAT opportunity to meet our new families, and for children to have an opportunity to explore our local environment.

Our school values of 'GREAT' are well and truly being embedded into our everyday life at WVS.  If you happen to pop into the office - you won't miss the 'GREAT' new sign!

Also coming home today is our Parent/Teacher information sheet. This is yellow this year. This is your opportunity to tell your child's teacher everything that you think we need to know.  We often know about the clubs and organisations that children are interested in, however we also want to know about the finer things that 'make them tick'!  As most of you are aware we had a real emphasis on School/Whanau connections in 2016, and we are looking to build on these.  The 2016 versions of these sheets were often referred to by teachers throughout the year.  Remember too, that you can always come into school and meet with teachers at a time that works for you both.  Please don't feel that you have to wait until formal Student Led Conferences.  If anything arises that you want to discuss, or even if you are just curious as to how they have settled in or are progressing with their learning, then please don't hesitate to either contact the teacher by email, or ring the school office.

School is closed on Monday because of Waitangi Day - enjoy your long weekend.
