Respecting the shift of seasons with APN

As we took a dedicated day to reflect on Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, our ears were full with stories and sounds from Canada's Indigenous voices. While taking time to appreciate the land and its fall foliage, we tuned in to A Day to Listen, produced by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. The full playlist is available for replay on the foundation's website, too.

While acknowledgment of the devastating history of Canada's residential schools shouldn't be limited to a single day, nature's change reminds us that there are full seasons for quieting and reflection. Those days are a requirement for the next cycle of growth. Keep your ears open, friends.

This week's playlist is ready for your podcatcher queue. You can find out more about this week's episodes on the APN blog

Podcast news

  • Our fave teacher is back! Shane Lawrence has stepped in to a co-hosting role on Unprofessional Development with William Mealy. Discussions with folks working in education are featured weekly, and the first episode on APN is a chat with Miriam Plotinsky, author of Hover Less, Teach More.
  • Three Kitchens is back for its second season with fab new show art, a revamped website, plus a two episode chat with Jenna and Ryan Greir of Whispering Cedars Ranch about raising lamb in Alberta.
  • We were at The Aviary last week for the live recording of Let's Find Out as hosts Chris Chang-Yen Phillips and Trevor Chow-Fraser gathered questions for their upcoming season about Edmonton's parks and natural areas. We were also impressed by Sarah DeLano's talk on foraging and the rhubarb and apple crumble from her Rat Routes and Reasons to Gather cookbook — the book is accessible for free download from the University of Alberta's Education and Resource Archive.
  • Slugblaster, the game that Quantum Kickflip lives for, has been officially released in book form, in full. Digital and print copies are available for order.

  • AIR, a global community of independent audio producers, is a fantastic resource for indie podcasters. As a network of independently hosted shows, APN is definitely a fan of this sorta thing.
All of this is possible thanks to our sponsors and partners.
