Hello <<First Name>>,

Spring has sprung and I'm feeling energized and slightly distracted, wanting to try new feltmaking techniques.

This past weekend, I met up, via Zoom, with the members of the Northeast Feltmakers Guild for their annual, two-day meeting. Having joined the organization in November, I didn't know what to expect.

Saturday was devoted to learning a new technique with multi-talented, ceramicist-feltmaker, Ellen Silberlicht. We made these enormous, Seuss-like flowers! Who knew that wire and water (via wet felting) could be combined? Ellen showed us how!

I cannot wait to try her method on my next over-the-top Fantasy Hat, instead of relying on sewing in millinery wire, after-the-fact like I did with my Vegas Creamsicle, a few years ago.

The Challenge

On Sunday, there was a general meeting covering the details of the Guild. Then, there was the high point - sharing the Feltmaking Challenge. In this challenge, there were constraints of materials, but the theme was open.

Members who participated each received one tarot card and a bunch of seemingly random bits of plastic and fiber via the mail. I learned that the deck was selected because of its Art Nouveau-esque beauty, and not because the group did card readings.

However, having this potential meaning from the cards infused the work with a greater layer. Each woman had a unique approach: from how she incorporated the meanings of her individual card, to how she chose to use the 'weird bits.'  It was truly inspiring to see what they made.

While I didn't participate in the challenge, I will certainly try to do so with future ones!

Hopefully, the Guild will soon have an online exhibition to share. Stay tuned.

Undulating Blue-Green & Raspberry Hat

This Spiralling Pretty is the last one that I have felted during Zsofia Marx's online class, 'Stunning Hats'. I have now made six hats using Zsofia's unique techniques, Thankfully, I can say that I may have finally sussed it. Or at least my hands are now doing what is needed!

Why is this lovely? Well, the way the Blue-Green color glides into the Raspberry Purple is NICE and smooth. And the shape is similarly graceful as it swirls around the head, twisting and turning.

It is a medium-sized hat, but I am able to adjust it to make it smaller or larger if needed. Just let me know.

Wishing you a wonderful week!

With appreciation,
