Hello <<First Name>>,

It was a fine week. Just not one where a lot of feltmaking got done! Do you ever have times like that?
Water + Electricity
Wool laid out on circle resist with sander.
Yes, that's what's happening!

While there is a layer of thin plastic sheeting in the photo above, after the initial sanding, I remove that, and then 'sand' directly on the wet felt.

Note: there is NO sandpaper and the soleplate of my sander, a Makita, is covered with thick black plastic. Nonetheless, sanding wet felt is an activity that makes me slightly nervous. So, I always plug into a GFCI outlet. Our house is old, so my spouse added this improvement to one of the outlets in my studio.
Felted Hood Awaits Shaping
Hat body and tools used to shape.

Shaping a hat is one of my most favorite activities. Sometimes, things go smoothly. Whereas, other times they don't. I'm not so sure about this one as I'm trying for a new-to-me silhouette.

To Be Continued, next week - fingers crossed...
Green Time
Green Fig Beret
Tudor Beret

Here are two rather different digital hat collages for your enjoyment. Imagine floating amongst the fragrant fig trees or conversely, laying on the moss near the Tower of London. A Tudor suitor awaits!

The Fig Beret is for someone with a rather small-sized head, while the Forest Beret is for a small to medium head-size. Click on the links above for the specific hats, or click on the button below to see the Green Hats. There are bunches!
Feeling Green

Thank you for accompanying me on this feltastic journey.

Until next time,

Signature of me, Juliane

PS: There's a fascinating article in the New Yorker about how Black designer, Ann Lowe, created amazing couture gowns for mid-century, high society women. {While there isn't a Paywall, the magazine requires an email. Or read this article from FIT.}.
Please feel free to share this newsletter with friends who like felt, hats or creativity!
